Elliott, d~viver of the Union Fire Company, to be paid for three <br />from duty in Febraary, on account of sic'kn~ss. <br /> It is recommended that an appropriation of $5.89 be allowed for the same. <br /> <br /> Referred by Common Council Februa~vy 14th. <br /> <br /> A petition of Joseph Daughtrey to be paid $28.42 because of injuries received by him while <br />on du~y as fireman. <br /> It i~ reconrmended~that the petition be granted. <br /> <br /> To consider the advisability of issuing $100,000.00 of bonds for street paving for the City <br />proper. <br /> It is reco~nended that this mat~er be sent back to the Committee to prepare and pre- <br />sent a suitable resolution for issue of paving bonds for the Omty proper, and to issue also $37, <br />500.00 of bonds for the Sixth and Seventh Wards each,~or Street ImP=ovements in said Wards. <br /> <br /> (Smgn~d). Novembe~ 14th. <br /> <br /> Recommitted. A petition of A. H. Goodman to have the Citypay the difference in cost be- <br />tween a granolithic pavem~nt and a brick sidewalk in front of his store at the corner of' Effing- <br />ham and King streets. <br /> Th~ Committee ~do mot desire to recommend a precedent by which the City may be called <br />on h~reafter to pay onerhalf the cost of laying granolithic sidewalks, but because of the pec~- <br />liar conditions under which this paving is requested it is r$commended t~at the petition of A. <br />H. Goodman be granted; the total cost of th? pavement to be $1B0.00, or $1.00 per yard, of which <br />amount Mr. Goodman and the City are to pay $.B0 per yard each. <br /> <br /> Authorized to take up with the Virginia Railway and Power Co~0any the advisability of using <br />a street' sprinkler t~ be cL~awn on the electric ~a~ilway tracks in. the City. <br /> We have instructed the Clerk to obtain for the Committee the opinion of the City At- <br />torney as to the right of the~City to require the Company to use a street car for sprinkling <br />the streets. <br /> <br /> A petition of Edward Overman and others fo= a bridge at the west end of Leckie street to <br />connect with the east end of Sale street in West Park View. Progress as to same. <br /> <br /> A petition of Whit Wilkins for improvement to condition of street on Race avenue,~between <br />Washington and Green streets.~ <br /> This petition~has been referred to the City Engineer to ascertain what improvements <br />ars needed and to obtain cost of the same, <br /> <br /> A request'of the Consolidated Investment Company~ of Norfolk, to run a spur track on the <br />Cat Hole wharf, to connect with the Seaboa~vd Air Line tracks. Progress. <br /> <br /> (With City Engineer). Attention called to the condition of several lately paved streets. <br /> We report that we are looking into this matter. <br /> <br /> Advisability of opening Cooke s~re~t, between High and King~ and of p~ving the sidewalk of <br />the same, between Glasgow and High. <br /> We report that this matter is being handled by the Sixth Ward Local Board. <br /> <br /> (With City Attorney). To. ascertain the liability of the Virginia Railway and Power Compa- <br />ny for part payment of cost of re-inforced concrete cu!.vert at the Scott Creek bridge, on High <br />street. <br /> The Clerk will write.to the Company and ask for a conference between its Attorney and <br />the City Attorney about this matter. <br /> <br /> Advisability of layinga sidewalk on the south side of Randolph 's~reet, between First <br />Second. <br /> It is recommended ~hat this work be done at a-cost of $754.00. <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />Referred by Board of Aldermen November~lst. <br /> <br /> To consider the matter of relieving the congestion of cars at the Ferry wharf by a route <br />through Queen street to. Crawfozd. <br /> This matter is in the hands of the Joint Special Committee appointed by the COuncil <br /> <br /> <br />
