On motion, the report of the Committee was adopted, the recommended appropriation of $100. to put in serviceable condition the dock at the foot of High street being referred to the Joint Finance Committee. Public Property-- Hon. Co~on Council. Gentlemen:-- Your Public Property Committee respect- fully reports herein concerning the following matters referred co the Joint Public Property Com- mittee December 12-19 and November 14, 1911: Referred by Common Council December 1Eth. A communication from Grimes Battery, accompanied by a communication from the Mayor, in regard so providing additional armory and storage facilities for said Battery. It is recommended that such Additional armory and storage facilities be made, pro- vided the City can provide ~nds for the same. A request of J. L. Thomas, Captain Signal Corps of Virginia Volunteers~ to be furnished with a room in the new arrangement o£ City offices. Progress as to same. Authorized .to advertise for bids to build a new Clerk's office. ~e have so advertised and expect to receive bids for the same on February 6th next. Referred by Board of Aldermen December 19th. R~committed. Recommendation of the Committee in regard to appropriating $~15.00 for three typewriters for the Clerk of the Court. As tn~ City has always furnished t~ewriters for the Clerk of the Court and.as t~ese typewriters see: to be needed, it is recommended that $B15.00 be appropriated for the same. A'petition of the Park View Engine company for repairs to the roof of their house, meeting room, ac. Progress. Referred by Common Council November 14th. Authorized to advertise for bids to move the ~Armistead house~~ next to the court house yard, back from its present location. 'We have so advertised, and have received the following bids therefoz: From: -' J. T. Halstead, for J; N; Harris, for $860.00. H. E. Lueas, for $650.00. As H. E. Lucas is the lowest bidder for the work and as he is otherwise satisfac- tory to the ComJ~ittee, it is recommended that the award be made to him~ and it is further re- commended that he be required to enter into bond to amount o~ 50~ of his bid for 'faithful ~er- formance of the work, in accordance with specifications therefor. Authorized to advertise for bids to purchase lO0 mattresses and ?5 blankets for the City Jail. We have advertised for bids for same, and have received one bid therefor: From: Nathan Crockin, Inc:, for mattresses, $1.0~ each~ and blankets, $.90 each. party. He spoke~ urging an appropriation of $10, 000~00 for the purpose named. On motion, the appropriation asked for was referred ~o the Joint Finance Committee. Police-- Hon. Ce~non Council. Gentlemen:-~ herein concerning the following matters referred Tour Police Committee respectfully reports to the Join~ Police Committee November 21, Referred by Board of Aldermen November Slst. 1911: A request of James Talbot, policeman, for an increase of pay equal to that now being re- ceived by ali other regular patrolmen of the City police force. It is race, ended that he receive $~.50 per day fo~ each day, after one year's ser- vice as a regular policeman. And in this connection, it is ~urther recommended that the ordinance regulating the pay of policemen be so amended as to pay all policemen $~.50 per day for each day of their ser- vice on the police force after lZ months of such service, and that the ordinance shall take ef- fec~ from it's passage.
