<br /> The special committee appointed to consider the annexation of Port Norfolk and Pinners Point
<br />reported, with recommendation to adopt, "An ordinance for the extension of the coporate limits
<br />of the City of Portsmouth, pursuant to an act of the C~neral Assembly of Virginia, approved March
<br />i0, 1904."
<br /> ~hereupon, one,orion, the proposed ordinance was referred to the Ordinance and Annexa-
<br />tion Committees for conference with representatives of committees from Port Norfolk and Pinners
<br />Point; and the financial recommendations in said ordinance were referred to the Finance Commit-
<br />tee.

<br />
<br /> A request was received from the Rook and Ladder fire company for permission to hold a car-
<br />nival on the vacant lot a~ northeast corner of Wythe and Court streets, April ZZ-B?th, and to
<br />be exempted from payment of a license tax on said carnival.
<br /> On motiom, said request was granted.
<br />
<br /> A communication was read from Miss Lena Fiynn in which she asked for a contribution to the
<br />"Queen Contest," Firemen's Jubilee, April BE-B?, 1S1$, but no action was taken thereon.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Tyler offered the following resolution:
<br /> "Resolved, That the advisability of acquiring
<br />by gift, purchase, condemmation, or otherwise, the property situated in the City of Portsmouth,
<br />bounded as follows: by the S. A. L. Ry. tracks on the North, by Wythe street on the South, by
<br />Third street on the East, by the Union Bridge Causeway on the West, for the purpose of parking
<br />~and making playgrounds for children, be refe=red to the proper committee."
<br /> On motion, said resolution was adopted.
<br />
<br />Mr. Hawks presented the following resolution which, on motion, was adopted:
<br />
<br /> "Resolved, That a committee composed of two members from the Common Council and one
<br />member from the Board of Aldermen, be appointed to take such action as it may deem necessary
<br />in an effort to induce the Seaboard Air Line Railway Company to erect a general office building
<br />in this City.
<br /> "That a committee from the Business Men's Association and the Retail Merchants' Asso-
<br />ciation be requested to co~operate with the Council committee."
<br />
<br /> Mr. Brinson moved that the body adjourn until Friday, April 1Eth, to take up the "License
<br />Tax Bill for 191E-l~,~ an ordinance for the annexation of Port Norfolk and Planers Point, or
<br />other unfinished business. The motion was adopted.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Dewson moved to suspend the rules to appropriate ~50.00 for a collar for horse at Park
<br />View engine house and a harness hanger at Independent engine house.
<br /> Whereupon, Mr. Hawks objected to the suspension of rules for this purpose, and moved
<br />as a substitute that the matter be referred to the Finance Committee, with power to act.
<br /> The motion was adopted.
<br />
<br /> On motion of Mr. Reynolds, the Public Property Committee was instructed to ascertain the
<br />cost of a fire engine house on Lincoln street.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Johnson moved that the Auditor be authorized to issue a warrant for $150.00 to supply
<br />music for firemen on their annual parade, and the motion was adopted by the following vote:
