<br /> The section in regard to requesting the ~blic Property Committee To furnish lights
<br />to City Officers in the Ferry building was not conch&fred in, but said Committee was instructed
<br />to put lights in the building, the cost of same to be deducted from rent of the offices in the
<br />said building.

<br /> regularly elected. ·
<br /> To invite the Nayor to go mo Buffalo., N. Y., to at~snd the League of American Eunicipali-
<br /> ties, the expenses,~f:the N~yor to be paid by the City.
<br /> To appropriate $75.00 to each of three delegaZes to attend the League of American Munici-

<br /> The Nayor returned ~his approval of the following resolutions and ordinance ~dopted by the
<br /> two branches of Council August l~-E0th:
<br />
<br /> To authorize the Treasurer to make notes in the several City banks ~o amount of
<br /> to meet current expenses of the City for August, t~1~.
<br /> To authorize the Treasurer to renew notes in the several City banks to amount of
<br /> due September i5~ igtB.
<br /> ~An ordinance regulating the uss of the roadways, or driveways, of the public streets and
<br /> highways in the City of Portsmouth."

<br /> The following other matters adopted by the two branches of Council August i~-~0th and re-
<br /> ferred to the'~ayor fo=~his approval, became effective by reason by his failure to return same
<br /> to the Clerk within five days:

<br /> To appropriaie $7,500.00 to extend D4nwiddie street southward to Fifth, out of receipts
<br /> from anticipated sale of bonds.
<br /> To appropriate $6,~46. i~ ~o pave Chestnut street, from south ~ide o£ Glasgow to south side
<br /> of South, and $~00.8~ to cover cost of inspection, &c., for same, ou~ of receipts from antici-
<br /> pated sale of bonds.
<br /> To allow $5~000.00 to the Board of Water Commissioners to meet its expenses for the year
<br /> tglS.
<br /> To allow a special appropriation of $iJS.O0 to pay a bill of Dr. Wm. G. Black, which was
<br /> held up by the Auditor because of lack of appropriation for same.
<br /> To make~award to Lorenzo Cart to repair doors at the north end of vegetable market, for
<br /> $ 8.oo.
<br /> To make a special appropriation of $~75.O0 ~o install fifty-six five cluster lights on High
<br /> ~treet, f~om Water to Chestnut, for balance of the Year; and a spec.iai appropriationlof$1,554.00
<br /> for fixtures for same.
<br /> To authorize the Fire Committee to dispose of a balky horse at the ~nnex fire engine house.
<br /> To exempt the Park View fire company i~rom paymen~ of a license tax on a Carnival to be held
<br /> by said Company September 9-14th.
<br /> To instruct the Auditor to pay regular City employees on August ~lst~ instead Of S~pt.ember
<br />~End, the~iatter date being a holiday.

<br /> Fifth. Reports of Officers and other unfinished business.

<br /> ~ T~e regular reports of Officers for August, 191S were presented and were ordered to take
<br /> the usual course.

<br /> The Clerk ~ving been asked if all the reports were on hand, and being answered that cer-
<br />tai~ reports had not been received, he was instructed to list hereafter reports recei.ved and not
<br />re.~e~ved and to read said list to the Council.
