<br /> Lanes.and Third streets~ and it aisc requested that sewer mains be laid in Hunter's and Eastwood's
<br /> The portion of tha communication ~n regard to unsanitary condition of marsh was
<br /> referred to the Street Committae, and the request for sewer mains to be laid in Hunter's and
<br /> Eastwood's Lanes was referred to the Sewerage Committee.
<br />
<br /> A communication from Henry Pile in regard to charges and restric'tions imposed o2him by
<br /> the Water Company ~as referred'to the City Attorney.
<br />
<br /> A petition was read from Dr. Joseph A. Guthrie for a better approach through Wilson avenue
<br /> from Glasgow street, to West Park Yiew, and said petition was referred to the Street Committee.
<br /> A bond of H. L. Hudgins, City Treasurer, forL$S0,000.00' renewed until his successor is
<br /> duly elected and qualified, was presented and referr2d to Finance Committee.

<br /> Mr. Baker offered the following resolution, which was adopted:

<br /> "Resolved, That a Joint
<br />Committee of Three, to be known as a 'Special Committee for the Codification of the Ordinances
<br />of the City of Portsmouth,, composed of two members from the Common Council and one member from
<br />the Board of Aldsrmen, be appointed, and instructed to proceed at Once to codify the ordinances
<br />of said City of Portsmouth, properly index the same and publish in substantdaiLbook form, prior
<br />to the first day of January, 191~. '
<br /> "That a special appropriation of ~00.00, o= se much thereof as may be necessary, be made
<br />for this work." "

<br />~ir. Tyler moved that the City Engineer be instructed to ascertain the right Of private
<br />parties to fill in the creek west of Washington street at the intersection of P~rrison street.
<br /> The motion was adopted. '

<br /> By the same, to refer to Ordinance Committee, the advisability of an ordinance regulating
<br />the erection of bill boards in the City. The motion was adopted.

<br /> By the same, to refer t0~Fin~c~e~ Committee, the advisability o~f printing the ~Traffic
<br />Ordinance" in pamphlet form for ge~erA~l distribution. The motion was adopted.

<br /> The Chairman of the Public Property Committee asked that his Committee be authorized to
<br />advertise for bids to furnish wood and coal for the public buildings during the winte~and the
<br />authority was granted.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Brinson moved to refer to the Street Committee the advisability of a granolithie side-
<br />walk on th~ north side of Jeffersons~r~t,~ ~ between Fourth and Fifth, and on the east side of
<br />Fifth street, between Fayette and Jefferson. The motion was adopted.
<br />
<br /> By the same, that the matter of annexation of Port ~orfolk and Pinners~P0int to the City
<br />be referred to the Annexation and Ordinance Committees, ~ointly. The motien was adopted.
