<br /> First. Natters~adopted by the Common Council August iSth and referred to the Board of Al-
<br />dermen for sonourrenoe.
<br />
<br /> To permit the Hook & Ladder Comnany No. ! to use the playground from September S-!3th, in-
<br />clusive, for holding a carnival~ and~also to exempt said Company from paying a license tax for
<br />same.
<br />
<br /> To adopt a resolution in regard to the paving of First street.
<br />
<br /> To authorize the Treasurer to renew notes to amount of ~96,000.00,
<br />and SB0,000.00 due Street Paving Bond Account.
<br />
<br />falling due in September;
<br />
<br /> To authorize the Fire Committee to advertise for bids to erect a hose dryer, at a cost not
<br />to exceed $300.00, out of appropriation allowed in the Budget for same.
<br />
<br /> To authorize the Fire Committee to sell a horse of the Park View Engine for a sum not less
<br />'than $350.00.
<br />
<br /> To allow Almshouse bills to amount of $388.!0, sub~ect to approval by the Auditing Committee
<br />
<br /> All of the above were concurred in, except to adopt the resolution in regard t9 pav-
<br />ing First street.
<br />
<br /> The Board concurred also in ail r~comme~datione of Committees adopted by the Common
<br />Council, except recommendation of the Street Committee to pave Lincoln street, from Sixth Streett
<br />to Seventh Ward line; Glasgow, from Effingham to Hatton, and from Godwin to Scott Creek Bridge;
<br />Washington, from North to South; Queen, from Water to Crawford~ and east side of Crawford, from
<br />Queen to High; which was resommitted, to consider with said pavement the paving of Crawford
<br />street, from South to North~ if practicable, and if not, then from High to North. Also recom-
<br />mendation of the Ordinance Committee to adopt an ordinance with regard to appointment of a Desk
<br />Sergeant, which was sent back to the Committee with instructions to state definitely the pay of
<br />such Desk Sergeant.

<br /> The Board concurred also in action of the Common Council in instructing the Clerk to
<br />send to Captain of Grimes Battery a statement of the Finance Committee in regard to financial
<br />condition of the City.
<br />
<br /> The Board'concurred also in action of the Common Council on July 8th in rescinding its
<br />former action in requiring the paving of High street to begin at Chestnut street and proceed
<br />westward, and to leave the matter to discretion of the Street Corr~ittse, withunderetanding that;
<br />when the work is finished within the ~ppropriation fo~ same, no gap o~ unfinished portion of the
<br />street in the vicinity of Chestnut street will exist.

<br /> The report of the Special Committee on Seaboard Air Line Railway Offices, adopted by
<br />the Common Council, was presented to the Board, but it took no action thereon.

<br />Second. Communications from the Mayor.

<br /> The Mayor z~turned his approval of the following matters adopted by the'two br~nches of
<br />City Council August 1~-19~ 19i3, and referred to him for approval:

<br /> To pay bills of the Portsmouth Suburban ~ater Company to following amounts~ for hydrant
<br />rental in the Sixth ~ud Seventh Wards from March SS, 1909, to December $1~ 191~, provided that
<br />said pa~ent shall be without prejudice, in the premises, to rights of either the City or the
<br />Water Company: (Special).
<br /> Sixth Ward: $3~0Sl.5i~ with $319.S4 interest, total, $3.~41.~5.
<br /> Seventh Ward: ~:960.4~, with $309.S5~iAterest; total, $3, E69.6S.

<br /> Treasurer authorized to borrow SSO,0~0.00 to meet current expenses for Au~ast, 1913.
<br /> Special appropriation of ~S00.00 for preliminary work on codification of City Ordinances.
<br /> To make available $500.00 allowed in the Budget for "West Park View Streets.,
<br /> To advance a special appropriation of SS, 530.00 for curbing and guttering, and shelling
<br />roadway of Pearl street in the Seventh Ward~ north from South street~ said amount to be repaid
<br />to the City by the Sixth Ward, in accordance with opinion of the City Attorney ~herefor.
<br /> Special appropriation of SSO0.00 to Seventh Ward Board to meet its "Street" expenses for
<br />August and September, i9!3, said amount to be repaid to the City when Ward funds are available
<br />for same.
<br /> To make available balance of $i50.00 allowed in the Budget for Police "Contingent."
