A communication from the Sixth ~a~d~Bos~vd in regard to <br /> charging the whole cost of improvement to Pearl street ~gainst the Sixth Ward. <br /> It is recommended that fhe former action of Council in imposing the whole cost of <br /> ~ork on Pearl street on the Sixth Ward be rescinded and the cost of such work be divided equal- <br /> ly between-the Sixth and Seventh Wards. <br /> <br /> (With Power to Act). Barrett to have her husband Jos. E. Barrett put on the pay roll <br /> of the City, <br /> We report that the Committee feels sympathy for the situation of Mr. and mrs. Barrett <br /> and regrets to report adversely as to said petition. <br /> <br /> To investigate bills to amount of $1,$45. for paving upper High street, said amount being <br /> in excess of the $2,000. allowed in October, 191S, for said work; and how and by whose authori- <br /> ty bills were contracted for the excess amount ..... ~ <br /> Of this amount of $1,845., whigh your Committee were~instructed to inveptigate, we <br />find that $745.20 was spent for putting ~n a pipe line on said street with app~oxmmately $500. <br />additional for labor, making a total of $1~$45.20, expended by the Sixth ~ard Board with the <br />approval of its Chairma~ W. E. Henry only. This expenditure was charged up to Bond Account. <br /> The City Engineer, in m~ing up his estimates for 1914, took no a~count of this ex- <br />penditttre, as he k~ew nothing about it. <br /> In addition to this charge of $1,2~5.20, there is a charge also of $400, approximame- <br />ly, for gutters put in, which expense is to be met by the Va. Ry. & Power Co. <br /> <br /> A petition of J. H. Sharp and sundry others for permission to run a private sewer pipe <br />through High street, between First and Second avenues~ to empty in-to the creek between Third <br />aud Fourth avenues. <br /> It is recommended that the petition be granted, provided no tu~.~elling is done under <br />the permanent pavement and the work is done to the approval of the City ~ngineer smd Board of <br />Health. <br /> <br /> To look into conditions of contract between the City and the Va. Ry. & Power Co. in regard <br /> to moving old stone ~rom High street. <br /> We report that the old stone referred to was-put by the Va. Ry. & Power Co. between <br />its tracks on upper High street and is being worked up and scattered by wagons crossing the <br />t~ack~. <br /> Therefore, it is recommended that the Va. Ry. & Power Co. be requested to cover said <br />tstone with ~inders or some other suitable binder. <br /> <br />To consider the advisability of opening Cooke street, from Glasgow to <br /> Progress as to s~me. <br /> <br />Referred by Board of Aldermen April Slst. <br /> <br />High. <br /> <br /> A communication from J. A. Johnston and s~undry other property owners on Holladay street <br />calling attention to flutters bordering on said street. <br /> It is recommended that this matter be referred to the Sixth Wa~d Board. <br /> <br /> To consider the improvement of London street, from Effingham to H~tton; and Hatton etreet~ <br />~from London to Glasgow. <br /> These improvements were reported on by the Committee at a joint session April ~rd. <br /> <br />Referred by Board of Aldermen February l?th. <br /> <br /> A request of-the Bell Motor Co. to be allowed to install on the sidewalk in front of pre? <br />mises Nos. ~ll-Sl$ High street a gasoline delivery and Storage tank. <br /> It is recommended that the petition be granted, provided the work be done ~under the <br />supervision and to approval of the City Engineer. <br /> <br /> A request of the Va. Ry. & Power Co. that it be given a franchise fo occupy ~certain streets <br />of the City as shown by accompanying plat, and also to be allowed to abandon tracks~marked on <br />the plat. <br /> We report that we do not think it ~dvisabls to ta~e up the question of franchise with <br />the Company at this time, but will recommend, instead~ that it be requested to extend its t~acks <br />on Glasgow street, from Godwin to Wilson and along Wilson to Spratley. <br /> <br /> It is further recommended that an appropriation of $500. be allowed to repair the <br />Swimming Point Bridge. <br /> <br /> It is further recommended that an mppropriation of $90. be provided in the Budget of <br />1915 to improve unsanitary condition of section of Park View in rear and to side of ~lSS4 B <br />street, and the dead end of Armstrong street at this point. <br /> <br /> tt is recommended further that sm a~propriation of $1~8. be allowed to repair wharf <br />at the east end of High street. <br /> (Signed) E.B.
