Progress. <br /> <br /> Referred by Board of Aldermen May 19th. <br /> <br /> $1,$45. for paving upper High street, said amount being in excess of the SB,000o sllowed <br /> in October, 1915, for said work, <br /> This m~tter was reported on by the Street Committe~ to the two branches M~y 1E-19th, <br /> and explained by the 0hairman of said Committee to the Common 0ounoil, and we UDderstand, there- <br /> fore, there is nothing for the Finance-Committee to 'do about it. <br /> <br /> To consider mn appropriation of $~5.00, or as much of the same as necessmry, to pay for <br /> additional work proposed for the License Inspector. <br /> It is recommended that a speciml appropriation to said ~mou~t be allowed for the pu~- <br /> pose n~J~ed. <br /> <br /> A resolution with regard to the Committee arranging some m~nner in which the floating debt <br /> of the City may be placed on a 5% basis. <br /> We report that the Committee has this matter under consideration. <br /> <br /> It is further recommended th~t'the practicing physicians id the .City be relieved from <br /> payment of City license tax for 1914-15. <br /> <br /> It is further recommended that the bond given by the Y. C. <br /> <br /> The report having been read, Mr. Hawks wished to know why the 0ommittee recommended that <br />physicians be relieved .from paymentof a license tax for 1914-15. <br /> The 0h~irma~ of the Committee eXplained the reason for action of his Committee. <br /> Whereupon, Nr. Ha~ks moved that the report of the 0ommittee be s~iopted ~nd it was adopted <br />by the following vote: <br /> Ayes--Oorbitt, Hmll, White, PIa~vey, Noore, Johnson, Lassiter, <br /> Re~moldS, Gross, Hawks, t~orga~, Houghton, Cooke, 13. <br /> <br />(Bresent Yr. Herbert). <br /> <br />Streets-- <br /> <br />Hon. Common Council. <br /> <br />Gentlemen:-- Your Street Oommittee respectfully reports <br /> <br />hereSn concerning the following matters referred to the Joint StreetOommittee M~y 1~-19, 1914: <br /> <br /> Referred by Common Council May 1Bth. <br /> <br /> For examination and report. A petition of James T.. Cmsteen, agent for Hedges estate, to <br />be re-imbttreed to amount of SlX.E0 paid for repairs to a water pipe opposite Nos. 814 and 8~4 <br />Chestnut street. <br /> We h~ve looked into this matter, believe the City to b~ r~sponsible for the broken <br />wate~ pipe, and recommend tha~ the $15.E0 be allowed ms requested. <br /> <br /> A petition of A. O. Thomson and sundry property owners on King street that said street be <br />paved from Oou~t to Washington. Progress as to same. <br /> <br />To remove old stone on Second street, between Henry and Randolph. <br /> We report that this old stone ham been removed. <br /> <br /> Advisability of all,wing the Sixth Wa~d to use the Ci.ty street sweeper ~or three days. <br /> We report that the City h~s only one street sweeper ~n conditionfo~ ready work and <br />that is in use continuaily; but there is ~n old street sweeper somewhat out of repai~ which the <br />Sixth Ward Board could have fixed up at slight cost a~duse; and it is ~eco~zended that said <br />street sweeper be loaned to the Ward~ <br /> <br />Referred by Board of Aldermen, M my 1Bth. <br /> <br /> To investigate and report as to rights of the S. A. L. Ry. Co. at the soumheast intersection <br />of Water and County streets. <br /> It is recommende~ that the Ci.ty Attorney be instructed to ~ive the Council his written <br />opi~Zion in this matter. <br /> <br /> The City Engineer reported thmt certain boardwalks in ,th~ Sixth and Seventh Wa~ds a~e <br />in very bad dondition and we would recommend that the Local Boards of said Wards be requested to <br />repair said boardwalks or to remove them. <br /> (Signed) E.B.
