R. C, P. August 11,. 1914. in Jttne 9th, 1914: concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Street Committee July 1A-Blst, Aiid,~: Referred by Common Council J~ly 14th. A request of Mrs. Nora Cook to have removed a fence which hides her store at No. S2~ First street. As this is a matter of ordinance, it is recommended that same be referred to the Mayor~ A petition' of E. P. Lindsa~ & Co. for permissio~ to bury a gasoline tans on the sidewalk near curb line in front of No;-518 Middle street, in accordance with diagram enclosed. It is recommended that the petition be not g~anted. A request of the Park Commission that Council place on the pa~k site any dirt that may be taken from streets to be paved this year. We report that we have referred this matter to the City Engineer for attention. A request of Sixth Ward Board that the Street Committee take 'up with the Portsmouth Coal & Ice Co. matter of clewing sidewaIk east and west of its property on High street. We report that we have referred this matter to the City Engineer for attention. A petition of The Atlantic & Danville Ry. Co. to be granted permission to haul, at its own Cost, ~00 car loads of ashes, at present unused at the Crematory, for improving property in "Seventh Ward.. "Brighton, . As the City has use for these ashes, it is recommended that the request be not granted. (With Finance Committee). AdvisabiiitM of putting extra cess-pools in middle of each block, so as to allow water to run off. Progress as to same. (With City Attorney). To ~ook into advisability of entering suit to recove~ from parties responsible .amount of money agreed upon in connection with the compromise suit of E. F. Barbour against the City. Flynn to construct concrete sidewalks on the south side of Anne street, from Owens to Armstrong, and on the north side of-Randolph street, from First to Second; and for constructing concrete curb and gutter on both sides of Caroline street, west of Green. We are informed by the City Engineer that the specifications which he used in adver- tising for this work were not his own specifications but those which had heretofore been used in the Cit~, and that in his opinion these specifications would imsure a durable pavement. we have, therefore, referred the matter back to the Enginesr with the request that he prepare suitable specifications for such work and re-advertise for bids. McGuire against the City for $3~$48..~4, for work on upper High street. On motion, Ordinance s-- the report of the Committee was adopted. (Present Mr. Tyler). The Chairman of the Committee presented a~:ordinance with the following title: AN ORDINANCE CONCERNING THE USE AND RENTAL OF THE CITY MARKET HOUSE, KNOWN AS THE CITY MEAT MARKET. He.explained that it was urgent to pass this ordinance the status of'the renters of stalls in the market right away, with a view of passing the o=dinance. The motion to suspend the rules was adopted, and then the following vote: Ayes-- Corbitt, Hall, ~hite, Parrish, Hanvey, Cross, Tyler, Hawk~, Houghton, Cooke, at once as it is necessary to fix and moved to suspend the rules ordinance was adopted and by the Herbert, Moore, Johnson, 15.
