Motion by Mr. Hawks, and seconded by Mr. Martin, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $35,000.00 FROM THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS FUND FOR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DESIGN WORK FOR DRAINAGE AND STREET IMPROVEMENTS IN THE SIMONSDALE AREA." Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Nays: None Robinett Motion by Mr. Hawks, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to award the design contract to Woolpert in the sanount of $65,000 for drainage and street improvements in the Simonsdale area, and was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett Nays: None 94-382 Letter from the City Manager regarding adoption of an ordinance amending the Portsmouth Supplemental and the Fire and Police Retirement Systems to expand the membership on the Board of Trustees. "At your request, the City Attorney has prepared the attached ordinance for your consideration. The ordinance a~ends the Portsmouth Supplemental and Fire and Police Retirement Systems to expand the membership on the Board of Trustees from the current nuauber of seven to nine voting members. The ordinance permits the expansion of the number of Trustees selected from the current ranks of the Fire and Police departments. Under the present system, the representatives from the Fire/Police departments are rotated. For example, the present Fire representative on the Board would be replaced by a Police representative upon the expiration of the term. The attached amendment expands the Board to permit a member from both departments to serve at the same time. In addition, the modification will permit the inclusion on the Board of Trustees of a representative from members of the retired fire or police employees. The attached ordinance =s provided as requested for your consideration." Jackson Shaw, 503 Linda Road, spoke in favor of the proposed ordinance. Lloyd Beazley, 3186 Reese Drive, spoke in favor of the proposed ordinance. Motion by Mr. Griffin, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 30 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988), BY AMENDING SECTION 30-52 THEREOF PERTAINING TO THE COMPOSITION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE PORTSMOUTH SUPPLEMENTAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM."
