Septe~:~er 27~ 1994 <br /> <br />9~-383 ~ ~et~er ~ro~ ~he City ~an~ger ~e¢o~mendi~g adoption of a <br />resolutmon supp0~ting the' Cmty of Chesapeake's request-for the <br />Virginia Department of Transportation to perform a feasibility <br />study for Route 337 along the Jordan Bridge Corridor from <br />Poindexter Street at 1-464 to Frederick Boulevard at George <br />Washington Highway. <br /> <br /> "The City of Chesapeake has requested the Virginia <br />Department of Transportation to fund a location and feasibility <br />study in the Jordan Bridge corridor from Poindexter Street in <br />Chesapeake to Frederick Boulevard in Portsmouth. The study <br />would be paid by State Surface Transportation Program funds and <br />no city funding would be involved. Chesapeake has asked the <br />City of Portsmouth to support its request to VDOT to carry out <br />the study. <br /> <br /> The proposed project, would be partially in Portsmouth and <br />would affect this City's future transportation system. The <br />results of the study would provide valuable information to us <br />for future planning. Since there are no local funds involved, <br />and since adoption of this resolution does not commit the City <br />to support construction of the project, I recommend that you <br />adopt a resolution supporting Chesapeake's request to VDOT." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Griffin, and seconded by Mr. Martin, to adopt <br />the following resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CITY OF CHESAPEAKE'S REQUEST <br />TO THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO PERFORM A <br />LOCATION AND FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR ROUTE 337 FROM POINDEXTER <br />STREET AT 1-464 TO FREDERICK BOULEVARD IN THE VICINITY OF GEORGE <br />WASHINGTON HIGHWAY ALONG THE JORDAN BRIDGE CORRIDOR. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in accordance with the Virginia Department of <br />Transportation construction allocation procedures, it is <br />necessary that a request by Council Resolution be made in order <br />that the Department program an urban highway project in the <br />Cities of Chesapeake and Portsmouth, Virginia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of <br />has requested the Council of <br />support its request. <br /> <br />the City of Chesapeake, Virginia <br />the City of Portsmouth, Virginia to <br /> <br /> ¢ <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia does hereby request the Virginia <br />Department of Transportation to establish an urban system <br />highway project to perform a location and feasibility study for <br />Route 337 from Poindexter Street at 1-464 to Frederick Boulevard <br />in the vicinity of George Washington Highway along the Jordan <br />Bridge corridor. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia understands that the total cost of the <br />study is to be funded from Surface Transportation Program funds <br />allocated for the Hampton Roads region." <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />94-384 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of a <br />resolution supporting a Hampton Roads connection to high speed <br />rail. <br /> <br /> <br />
