April 1~, 1915. <br /> <br />R, C, P. <br /> <br /> Portsmouth Cemetery Funds: That the Auditor be instructed to credit the Treasurer with <br />SESE.?4 in the People's Bank. <br /> <br /> Old Sinking Fund: That the Auditor be instructed to credit the Treasurer with <br />in the Peop.le's Bank and $~.69 ~in Dime Savings Bank, making a total of $E,896.94; and that the <br />balance of $1,5~0.89 be transferred to the General Account and the account closed. <br /> Fifth Ward Account: That the Auditor be instructed to credit the Treasurer with $9.0~ in <br />the People's Bank and the account closed. <br /> <br /> Paving & Bt. Improvement Account: That $18E.?~ balance in this fund be transferred to Gene- <br />ral Account-and this account closed. <br /> <br /> Paving & Grading Account: That the Auditor be instructed to credit the Treasurer with <br />$5,04~.54 in the People's Bank and ~6.49 in the Dime Savings Bank, making a total of <br />and that the balance of $1,84~.~ be transferred to General Account and the account closed. <br /> Municipal Building Fund: That the balance of $$05. Ry. & Power Co. for permission to install two poles on Caroline street, <br />as per blueprint attached. <br /> It ~s~ecommended that the petition be granted, under the usual conditions. <br /> <br /> Condition of South street, between Pine and Pearl. <br /> We re~ort that the C~ty Engineer has made temporary improvements to said location and <br />as soon as the weather is more favorable, will continue the work there. <br /> <br /> To consider the importance of paving Washington street. <br /> We report±that it~ is very desirable to pave Washington street but <br />are lacking, we see no chance of doing the work at the present.time. <br /> <br />as the funds for it <br /> <br />oo1~. <br /> <br />Recommitted for further consideration. Condition of Third street, between Fayette and Lin- <br /> Engineer <br /> We report that the CityAhas been instructed to remedy the conditions on this street. <br /> Referred by Board of Aldermen March 18th. <br /> <br />Attention called to condition of the lot formerly occupied by "Clover's Stables." <br /> We repor~ that the condition of this lot is being remedied. <br /> <br /> A petition of the Portsmouth Machine Works for permission to install and operate a sidewalk <br />gasoline tank and pump to garage now in course of erection at the northeast corner of Middle and <br />Columbia streets. <br /> It is recommended that the petition be grante~ under conditions heretofore imposed <br />for such work, namely~ that the work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer and Chief <br />of the Fire Department and to their approval. <br /> <br /> A communication from the General Counsel of the Seaboard Air Line Railway Co. in regard to <br />a request.from the Council that said Company allow the Cityto cross its proper~y between High <br />and King streets, so as to open Pearl street continuously. <br />We report that, since the Seaboard Air Line Railway Co. have refused to grant ~he <br />quest of Council, we do not see that anything more can be done in the matter at the present time. <br /> <br />Referred by Common Council February 9th. <br /> <br />To investigate and report to whom the cost of improving Pearl street should be charged. <br /> Progress as to same. <br /> <br /> (With. Claims Committee and City Attorney) A communication from the City Attorney in regard <br />to a claim of B. J. Farmer for $~,000. damages to his property on Pearl street. <br /> We have discussed this mat~er~ with the City Attorney and desire to look into same fur~ <br />thor. <br /> <br /> Authorized to advertise for bids to build a conduit .across the south end of Dinwiddie street.~ <br /> In connection with ~his matter, it is recommended that a pipe be run across Harrison <br />street to empty on the east s~de of Washington, at ah estimated cost of $?50.00. <br /> <br /> (Signed) S.
