As the passageway upon which this stand is proposed to be erected has been dedicated to the public, it is recommended that the request.be not granted. A petition of the Seventh Ward Board for an additional appropriation of $800.00 for its "Streets." We report that we have no authority in this matter and recommend that it be referred to the Finance Committee. A petition of the~First Friends~Church that.the-City.place.underground drains on each side of its property. We repor~ that we will recommend in the Budget of 1914 an appropriation of $450.00 to curb, g~tter and lay a granollthic sidewalkon the south side of Wythe street, from Cour~ to Third. - To pave Cooke street, from Glasgow to Harrell. It is further recommended that the Street Committee, City Attorney, and City Engineer be authorized to take up with the Harbor Commissioners the matter of the proposed bridge at the -Cat Hole in First street, and it is the sense of the Committee that the spa~ should not be over 10 feet. It is further recommended that section 5~lof the Ordinances be amended so as to pro- vi~e a charge for opening streets and roadwavsnot ~aved with - . ~---, cement or plastic pavement.; that eectmon 895 of the Ordinances be amended so as to provide SB.O0, instead of $1.50, for open- ing brick sidewalks; and that a.charge be made for opening granolithic sidewalks. It is~ recommended further ~hat-the City Engineer be directed to ~nspect the poles of the Virginia Railway & Power Company and ascertain if they are in conformity with ~he contract, and where they are not in accordance .with the contract, to notify the Co~pany to~cOnfo~rm to %he contract at once, and also that the City Engineer report the result of this investigation to the Councils.
