It is recommended that the petition be referred to the Street Committee. A petition of the Sealer of WeSghts & Measures for certain apparatus to be used in connec- tion with his business. Progress. Referred by Common Council February Z6th. An application of C. A. Briding for one-half of fine of $75.00, as informer in case of L.M. Goodmam for violation of License Tax Bill. It is recommended ~hat the application be granted, when the bill is properly approved. An appropriation of $175.00 to repair walkways of the West Pa~k View Bridge. It is recommended that said appropriation be allowed, out of "Street Repairs." It is further recommended that the bond of J. The report having been read, Mr. Langhorne stated that the Finance Committee had agreed to put in its report a request to lend the Sixth and Seventh Wards $5,500?00 for payment of past due bills of said Wa~ds and he moved tD~t the report be amended by adding same. The amendment was adopted. First. Matters adopted by the Board of Aldermen February 17th and referred to the Common Council for concurrence. Te authorize the Treasurer.to renew notes to amount of $149,~00.00 due in several City banks in N arch, 1914. To allow the Sewing.Society of St. John's Ch~urch to use the old Council Chamber as a Tea Room until the City is ready to repair same. To instruct the Street Committee .to enforce the contract against the Virginia Railway and Power Co. in regard to track at intersection of High street and S. A. L. Railway. · o allow the School Board to use the C~%%n~i~ Chamber for holding its sessions, with condi- tion that it be not'occupied by the Board when needed by Council or Council committees. To adopt a resolution of the Common Councillor Norfolk in regard to securing the location of the proposed new dry dockmat the'Norfolk. Na~y Yard. To allow the Park View Fire Co. to use the playground for holding a carnival the latter p~rt of Nay, and to exempt said Company from payment Of a license tax on same; provided that the rmght to hold said carnival be surrendered if the City should need the playground beAore the · carnival is to be held. To allow a bill of The W. P. Cotton Floral Co. to amount of $17.50, for design and decora~ tion of the Council Chamber and Municipal Building, on account of death of C. W. Walker. All of the above were concurred in, except section with regar~ to enforcing contract against Va. Ry. & Power Co. in regard to track at intersection of High street and S. A. L. Rail- way, which matter was referred to the Mayor with request that he furnish the Council with what information ~he may have concerninE same. As there was a disagreement between the two bodies as to the manner of enforcing the contract against the Va. Ry. & Power Co.~ Mr. Langhorne moved the appointment of a Conference Committee to see if an agreement can be reached as to this matter. The motion was ad%~ted. Second. Matter adopted by the Common Council February ~Sth and referred tO the Board of Aldermen for eoneurrence~ To refer to Pubtio Property Committee and Mayor, with power to act, matter of building a detention house for contagious diseases on the south side of County street, between ~Crawford andWater. The above was concurred in. Third. Matters adopted by the Board of Aldermen at a special meeting March 8th and refer- red to the Commo~ Council for concurrence.
