Murry, Henry Pile, 9. <br /> <br /> Th~ minutes of the regular~meeting February l?th, Joint Session March Sth, and special <br />meeting M~rch Sth were read and were approved. <br /> <br /> Auditing-- <br /> <br />1914, <br /> <br />REPORTS OF COMmiTTEES. <br /> <br />Reported having examined bills against the City for the month of February, <br /> <br />and they recommended the payment of the same to following amounts: <br /> <br />Street Cleaning, <br /> " Repairs, <br />Incinerator, <br />Trash & Garbage, <br />Pearl street, <br />St. Paving Bond ~ooount, <br />Almshouse, <br />Board~of Health, <br />~emet~ies~ <br />~Ontingent, <br />Court Expenses, <br />Fire, <br />Police, <br />Public Property, <br />Sewerage, <br />Water Commission, <br /> <br />$ 119. $5 <br /> lZl. 40 <br /> 8.00 <br /> <br /> i,0S9.4~ <br /> 188.14 <br /> 1,$15.$8 <br /> $O.~Z <br /> 195~00 <br /> 1~00' <br /> <br /> ~6.69 <br /> 59Z.91 <br />~4~.85 <br />· $,Z49,4S <br /> <br />Total, ~J,TTi.$S City Proper. <br /> <br /> On motion, the bills were allowed, and by the following vote: <br /> Ayes--Williams, <br /> Flournoy, Langho=ne, Barlew, Privett, Markham, Davis, Nutty, Pile, 9. <br /> <br /> In oonneetio~ with the report of the Auditing Committee, Mr. Davis stated that there were <br />sumdry bills due the Virginia ~y. & Power Co. fo= lights for thelmonths of November, December, <br />JanuarY, and February, and as these l~ghts are paid for by contract andeS re correct as to charge, <br />but had not been allowed by ~he Auditing Committee, because o~failure of a~proval of them by <br />one member of the Lmght Committee, he would move Shat these bills be paid wmth the endorsement <br />of the Auditor. <br /> Mr. Markham stated that there w~re s~Judmy bills against othe= Departments which were due <br />and correct and he desired to amend ~r. Davis' motion by including these bitl~ with ~the Light <br />bills. <br /> Mr. Davis stated that he did not thi~k the position of the ~wo classes of bills was the <br />same and desired to have the two sets voted on separately. <br /> However~ Mr. Markham urged his amendment~but it was lost by the following vote': <br /> <br /> N~ys_-i_Wil$iams, Flourngy, Langhorne, Barley, Privett, Da~ia,~,.6~ ~ <br /> Ayes Narkh~am,~. 1. Board of Aldermen. <br /> <br />Gentlemen:-~ <br /> <br />Your Finance Committee respectfully reports <br /> <br />herein concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Finance Committee February l?-Z6, <br /> <br />1914: <br /> <br />Referred by Board Of Aldermen February 17th. <br /> <br />Reports.of the Auditor, Treasurer, and Sixth and Seventh Ward BEds for January, 1914. <br /> Progress as to same. <br /> <br /> Report of the Auditor of followisg bills held~p by him, because of lack of funds for them: ' <br />Sixth Ward, $1,4Z?.~3, Seventh Ward, $~,4$9.01.. ' ~ <br /> <br /> It is recommended that the bmlls be paxd, out of Sixth and Seventh Ward funds. <br /> <br /> A request of the Treasurer to borrow $7,000.00 to meet School Expenses and $25,000.00 to <br />meet Current Expenses for Marsh, t914. <br /> It is recommended that the request be granted, and that the following resolutions be <br />adopted therefor: <br /> Resolved, That the Treasurer be, and he is hereby, authorized to make notes <br />in The Bank ef Portsmouth, The Merchants' & Farmers' Bank, the Bank of Tidewater, and The First <br />National Bank of Portsmouth, ~o amount ef Twentyrfive Thousand Dollars ($~5,000.00), to meet <br />~rrent Expenses for March, 1914; said amount to be repaid from revenues of the City for the <br />current year. <br /> Resolved, That ~he Treasurer~be, and he is hereby, authorized to make notes <br />in The Bank of Portsmouth, The Merchants' & Farmers' Bank, the Bank of Tidewater, and The First <br />National Bank of Portsmouth, to amount of Seven Thousand D~-~lars ($?,000.00), to meet School Ex- <br />penses for March, 1914; said amount to be repaid from revenues of the City for the current yea:. <br /> <br /> <br />
