A request of the Police Commissioners for an ordinance to prohibit public vehicles from
standing on the north side of High street~ between Crawford and Water,
Your Committee believes that th~s matter is fully covered by the present "Traffic Or-
First and Second Warde b~ya line running east and west and changing the name of Marshall Ward to
Park Ward.
Your Committee has seriously and maturely considered this ordinance and can not feel
that it is wise to reduce the membership of the Councils below the number suggested in our last
report, and as the selection of councilmen for the term beginning .September let, 19!4, la. close
at hand, we sincerely trust you will adopt this ordinance promptly in order to relieve the un,
certainty existing as to membership to be elected.
Therefore, it is respectfully recommended, as previously recommended, that the Council
be composed of 5 members from each Ward, ~ on the Common Council and E on the Board of Aldermen.
in EivimE numbers, instead of names, to the ~a=ds, and allowing 5 councilmen from each Ward fo~
the-old ~vt of t4e City and S,for the Sixth and Seventh Wards each.
The motion and amendment were discussed by Mess~a,. Davis, Markh~m~ and Pile.
Mr. Davis called attention to°the fact that, while the position taken by the Common Council
designated n%~mbers instead of names for the Wards, it ~i~d not say to ~hich districts the num-
hers~should apply,'but he thought that was a matter which~could be easily rectifie~ and w~%hout
objection, as he believed it was understood that the numbers would follow consecutmvely the or-
der of districts.
Mr. Markham moved the adoption of the districts as they have been heretofore defined and
agreed upon, without naming the number of councilmen for the districts.
The amendment was lost by the following vote:
