Referred by Board of Aldermen February l?th. A request of the Bel~ Me,or Co. to be allowed to install on the sidewalk in fro~t of pre- mises Nos. 611-613 High smreem a gasoline delivery and storage tank. It is recommended that the petition be granted, provided the work be done under the supervision and t~.approval ~f the City Engineer. ~ request of the Va. Ry._& Power Co. that it be given a franchise to occupy certain streets of the City as shown by accompanying plat, and also to be allowed to abandon tracks marked on the plat. We report that we do not think it advisable to take up the question of franchise with the Company at this time~ but will recommend, instead, that it be requested to extend its tracks on Glasgow street, from Godwin to Wilson,and along~.Wilson to Spratley. It is further recommended that an appropriation of $500. be allowed to repair the ~wimming Point Bridge. It is further recommended that an appropriation of $~0. be provided in the Budget of 1~i5 to improve unsanitary.condition cf section Of Park View in remr and to side of ~1~34 B. street, a~d the dead end of Armstrong street at this Point. The report having been read, the section with regard to $1,845. for paving upper High street was discussed by Messrs. Davis, Langhorne, and. Mu~ry. The mmtter of pipe line, in connection with said 'cost, was explained by the acting Chair- man ef the Committee; but, finally, this section, with other~sections relating to Finance, wms referred to Finance Committee. Then the rePort of the Committee w~s adopted and by the following vote: Ayes-- Williams, ~ontague, Flournoy, Langhorne, Barlow, Ballentine, Adams, Privett, Ma~vkham, Davis, Mttrry, Pile, Fire-- Hon. Board of Aldermen. Gentlemen:-- You~ Joint Fire Oommlttee respectftully reports that it has advertised for bids to paint the Park View Engine House and Union Fire House and has received the following bids therefor: Te Paint the Park View Engine House: M. Ba~ks,~ M. Banks being the only bidder to paint the Pa~k View Engine House, that awm~vd be made to him for the work. it is recommended To Paint the Union Fire' House: J. P. Hofler, Morris Ba~ks, $94.00 90.00 Morris Banks being the lower bidder to paint the Union Fire House, i~ ls recommended that award be made to him to do the work.
