<br />number of cuts in streets together with ink,ructions from the Council to lower CUrb boxes.

<br /> To anthorize ~he Auditor to make final 'payment for repairs, to market house, on approval
<br />by the Public Property Committee.

<br /> To ref~ to $~reet Committee and City Attorney to look into advisability of entering suit
<br />to re.over f~om parties respomsible the amount of money agreed upon in connection with compro-
<br />mise suit of E. F. Barbou~ against the City.

<br /> There was a long discussion between Mr. Davis and the City Attorney concerning the
<br />merits of the compromise appropriation for $5,000.00 but finally, on motion of N~. Ballentine,
<br />the Board concurred xn action of the Common Council and by the following vote:

<br /> Nay.s--Davis, 1.

<br /> The Mayor submitted a communication from the Chief of Fire Department enclosing a compla~iuut
<br />from the driver of hose wagon of Annex Fire Co. in reference to a horse which it seemed impos-
<br />sible to use in the Fire Department &c.
<br /> After s~me discussionof [he matte~, the communication was referred to the Fire Com-
<br />mittee for investigation and report.

<br /> The Mayor returned also his ~nproval of the following matters adopted by the two branches
<br />of City Council June 9-1?th, 1914:

<br /> Special appropriation of $500., or as much of the same as necessary, to repair the Swimming
<br />Point Bridge.
<br /> Special appropriation of $128. to repair wharf at the east end of High street.
<br /> To make available $150. allowed in the Budget for "Repairs to Engine Houses."
<br /> To make available $300. a~owed in the Budget for "improvement 1~6~ Court Room."
<br /> $1BB., out of $500. alloWe~-~In~Budget for "Repairs to Engine Hcffses," for paimting ~.h~ Park
<br />View and Union Fire Houses.
<br /> To authorize the Treasurer t? borrow $8,000. for Sohool~Purposes for May, 1914.
<br /> To make available the followmng amounts allowed ~n th~Budget for 1914: "Repairs to As~h
<br />phalt," $1,000~00; "Sidewalks," SVO0.00~ "~st Park View," $~50.00. '

<br /> An Ordinance Authorizing the Assistant to the City Clerk to Perform a Certain Part of His

<br /> The regular reports of Officers for the month of June, 1914, were presented and were or-
<br />dered to take the usual course.

<br /> The following ordinances ordered to lie on the table by this body June l?th, were taken up,
<br />read and adopted:
<br /> AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND RE-ORDAIN SECTION 47E OF THE ORDINANCES OF THE CITY
<br />OF PORTSMOUTN IN RELATION TO THE PAYMENT OF SALARIES OF FIREMEN.

<br /> AN ORDINANCE TO'AMEND AND RE-ORDAIN SECTION 427 OF REVISED ORDINANCES IN REGARD TO SPEED
<br />OF ENGINES, OARS, &C., AT STREET CROSSINGS; N[~NB~ OF ~ARS ~ER TRAIN; INTERVALS OF TIME BETWEEN
<br />TRAINS; PENALTY.
