<br /> The Mayor ret'~ned his approval of the following matters adopted by the two branches of
<br />City Council November lO-l?th, 1914:

<br /> A special appropriation of $189.85 to the Police Department to pay for repairs to automo-
<br />bile ~bill held up by. the Auditor in October).
<br /> $942.32 to pay ~xth Ward bills held up by the Auditor in October, out of~ Sixth Nard funds.
<br /> To pay judgments against the City in case of A. J.~Phillips.& T. J. Wool for $5, E50. with
<br />interest' and cost. and in case of E. Parkc Lindsay for $918.7~. w~th interest and~ Cost.
<br /> To refund to~ such City banks as have paid. under the assessment by thc Commissioner of Re-
<br />venue for 1914, or shall hereafter pay under the same~ s.mounts ove~-assessed agains~ them.
<br /> To authorize the Treasurer to make notes to amount of $20,000. to meet Current Expenses of
<br />th~ City for November, 1914.
<br /> To have~ deducted from $7, ~00. due the Sixth and Seventh Wa~ds b~ the Virginia Ry~ & Power
<br />Co. amounts advanced bY thc City to said Wa~ds, or out of any other funds availab!.e to said Wards.

<br /> To pay a bill of J. C. Miller & Co. to amount of $E50. for a horse purchased for the .Fire
<br />Department, out of balance of $~00. allowed in the Budget fo~ "Horses."
<br /> To pay a bill of The Gamewell Fir~ Alarm Telegraph Co. to amount of $E,990.00, out of ap-
<br />propriation allowed in the Budget for "Police Telephone," provided thc bill is approved by the
<br />Police Committee, the a~tention of said Committee~ being called to condition of the system and
<br />instructed to see that same is in good order before approving the bill.
<br /> To make available_ thc second half of $~00, allowed in the Budget for "Orphan Asylum," and
<br />to make same payable to the Treasurer of said institution.
<br /> City to supplement thc amount allowed by the State fo~ the re-a~sessment of property (.$~.00
<br />per day), the amount of $4.00 per diem of six (6) hours' work, for a period not to exceed 4 mon-
<br />ths, for thc 1915 assessn~ent.
<br /> Auditor and Treasurer instructed to pay City notes held by thc bank~ as fa~ as thc cash col-
<br />lected will permit, payment to each bank to be in proportion to their several loans.
<br /> To make available to the Firs Department balance of thc $900. allowed~in the Budget for
<br />"Horses."
<br /> To make available to the Public Property Department as much of the $364.01 allowed in the
<br />Budget for "U~approved ~itls" as is unexpended.
<br /> A special appropriation of $175. for re-arrangement of thc Fire Alarm System and to repair
<br />police telephone wires.
<br /> To grant a request of the Park Commission for permission to have transplanted a sufficient
<br />number of oak trees now on the Almshouse farm to the park site.
<br /> To make award to the Portsmouth Coal & Ice Cc. to furnish the City departments with 83
<br />more or less of Anthracite coal @ ~7 E4 ~cr ton and with B5 tons more or leas of Pocahontas
<br />steam coal @ $3.?B per teen, for the incommng season. (Storing, $.~0 per ton).
<br /> To make award to B~azley & Blanford to furnish ~ cords of wood at the City Jail @ $6.4?
<br />per cord.
<br /> To allow a request of Nfs. Griffin to be allowed to use the u~occupied part of the Armis-

<br /> To instruct the City Attorney to lay water complaints before the Corporation Commission for
<br />the purpose of having them adjudicated by said Commission.
<br /> To instruct th~ City Collector to collect rents from the o~cupants of property lateAy ac-
<br />quired by the City for the opening of Dinwiddie s~rect from .August 3~ 19iA, as. fgilows: the
<br />store at the corner of Harrison and Fifth streets, now occupied by Norris ~atz, $8.00 per month,
<br />and prOPerty now occupied by Frederick Allen $5.00 per month; but both these o~oupantc to~ vacate
<br />their property on ten days' notice by-the Street Committee.
<br /> To authorize the Treasurer to renew notes to amount of $E~9,00~50~ falling due in Decem-
<br />ber, 191~.
<br /> To release the American ~urety Co. from further liability under thc bond to thc Mayor.
<br /> To require the Police Justice to give the bond p~vieusly required of theNayor.

<br />ordered to take the usual course.

<br /> The Auditor reported the following bills held up.by him, because tBeyex~e~de~ the appropri-
<br />§tion allowed for same. Fire, $10.10, Police, $??.83, P~blic Property, $179.~3, ~ixth Ward,
<br />$~E~.~E. On motion, the bills were refer~ed to the Finance Committee.
<br /> He also reported a list of oouponsiwh~ch will fall due in l~lB; and that he has delivered
<br />the books of the Commissioner of Revenue to the City Collector.
