P. <br /> <br />Deeember 15~, <br /> <br />And by <br /> <br />the following vote <br /> <br />Ayes--Markham, Langhorne, Flournoy, 'Barlow, <br /> Oa~, Wilson, Browne, 7. <br /> <br />NEN B~$SI~TES S. <br /> <br /> A communication was received from the Portsmouth, Berkley & Suffolk Water Co. requesting <br />that the Board of Aldermen allow its: bills for additional hydrant rental on account of taxes <br />levied, &c., which were held up by the Board November i?th for further investigation. <br /> Whereupon, .Mr. Browne moved that the bills be taken from the table.and allowed. <br /> After considerable discussion of the matter, the mdtion was adopted and by the follow- <br />ing vote: <br /> Ayes--Markham, Langho~ne, Fiournoy, Barlow, Cart, Wilson, Browne, 7. <br /> <br /> A reply was received from the Virginia Ry. & Power Co.,in answer to a communication sent <br />it by the Street Committee requesting that said Company clean out ~ttere crossed by gratings <br />where its tracks run over. same. The Company said that arrangements had been made to do this <br />work jointly with the Street Cleaning Department. <br /> On motion, the communication was ordered to file. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Browne, the advisability of a light at the corner of Owens and Ann streets <br />was refer=sd to the Light Committee, and also the advisability of a light on Cooke street, be- <br />tween Leckie and Villa. ~ <br /> <br /> On motion o£ Mr. Wilson,~ the attention of the Light Committee was called to the fact that <br />a light is regularly out in the Fottrth Ward. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Langhorne~ the advisability of a light at the corner of Col~bia and Mid- <br />dle streets was referred to the Light Committee. <br /> <br /> Mr. Markham moved to refer to Finance Committee an increase of salary for the Physician <br />to the Poor. The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> On motion of .Mr. Cart, the matter of an increase of pay for the assistant engineers at the <br />Sewer Power House was referred to Finance Committee. <br /> <br /> Mr. Langhorne moved to refer to the Finance Committee the matter of obtaining a copy of <br />"Jefferson's Manual" for use of the Council. The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> O~ motions, the following other matters were referred to: <br /> Finance Committee-- <br /> Communica- <br />tion of the Seventh Ward Board recommending that W. F. Shackelfor% former Secretary of said <br />Bostrd, be paid one-half month's salary claimed by him. <br /> A communication from the Seventh Ward Board recommending~ that T. J. Morecock be refunded <br />$41.40 paid by him for night soS1 tax, provided the removal of~night soil~y him does not vio- <br />late the City Ordinances or the contract witkMr. Dunkum for the removaL of same. <br /> A request of .the City Clerk for an increase of salary, beginnihg January 1st, 1915. <br /> <br /> Street Committes-- <br /> A petition of~ W. O. Daughtridge for a sidewalk on the upper side of <br />High street, wes~ side of Chestnut. <br /> <br /> Fire Committee-- <br /> A communication from the Fire Boa_rd concerning the use of engine houses <br />to hold election~. <br /> A petition of the Fire Board that the bell at the Union Fire House be connected with the <br />Fire Alarm System. <br /> <br />On motion, adjou~ed. <br /> <br /> <br />
