<br />an appropriation to purchase a testing machine fore'tights, mn recommitting a petition of the
<br />Chief of Police for two more men for the Police Force=, and in not allowing the recommended ap-
<br />propriation not to exceed $50. for books, &c., to be used by the Plumbing Board.

<br /> Recommitted. To report the cost of having a new Topographical map of the City.
<br /> We have reconsidered this matter with the City Engineer; he states positively that it
<br />will require an appropriation of $1, 500. to do the work properly; and it is, therefore, recom-
<br />mended that such an appropriation be made for the work.
<br />
<br /> A comm~'nication f=om~_Co E. Grant in regard to fi!ling purchased for property of the late
<br />C. E. Grant.
<br /> It is recommended that the petition be not granted.
<br />
<br /> A petition of The Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co~ to be allowed to construct a conduit
<br />from the present manhole at High street and S. A. L. Ry. in location shown on attached c~oy of
<br />drawing.
<br /> It is recommended that the petition be granted, that said Company be required to give
<br />a bond to amount of $5,000. to secure the Cit, against any suits for damages at this point or
<br />any other location, and that the work be d~ne under~ the supervision of the City Engineer.

<br /> A petition of the Sixth Ward Board to be authorized to proceed with work on County street,
<br />at a cost of about $1,000; and also to repair Glasgow street, if available funds are on. hand
<br />belonging to the Ward.
<br /> It is recommended ~hat the petition be granted, the work to be done under the super-
<br />vision and to approyal of the City Engineer.
<br />
<br /> Question of working jail prisoners on the streets and to report on same with cost to ~he
<br />City. Progress as to same.
<br />
<br /> Attention called to the fact that pile drivers and cranes used in the neighborhood of the
<br />West Park View. Bridge are likely td endanger the safety of the bridge.
<br /> We report that the Clerk has been instructed to write to the party in charge 0£ pile
<br />drivers and cranes near the West Park View Bridge and instruct him to tie pile drivers or cranes
<br />neither to nor along side of said bridge.
<br />
<br />Authorized to use at once one-sixth of its appropriation all,red in the Budget.
<br /> We report that no action is necessary on this matter.

<br /> We report that we have discussed this matter, and it is recommended, as previously
<br />recommended, that the Sixth Ward pay the total cost for such improvement; and in connection
<br />therewith, we desire to state that the suit of B. J. Farmer for damages done to his property
<br />at the corner of Columbia and Pearl streets, the cost of which must be Dai~ by the Seventh War~
<br />was due to this very work on Pearl street.
