<br />-advising that the case of the Eastern Dredging _Company vs. the Oity of Portsmouth be compromised
<br />for $8p000. without interest, and payment of one half of costs, provided payment is made dnring
<br />t~e month of July.
<br /> We discussed this matter with the Committee and Messrs. Parker, Lash, Oast, Attorney
<br />for the l~ater Commission, and the Oity Attorney; end.we recommend the payment of this compro-
<br />mise bill plus $100. as the City's part for half of court expenses, involved in the suit, and
<br />that said amount be paid through the Board of Water Commissioners.

<br /> The report having been read, Mr. Markham said he favored it, with the exception of the
<br />recommended appropriation of $8,00~. for compromise of the sum% of the Eastern Dredging Company
<br />vs. the City, and moved its adoption with that recommendation struck out.
<br /> Mrm ~arl~w, ~ioe-Ohairman of the Committee, said that as N~. ~rocker, attorney for the
<br />Board of wamer ~omm~asioners, was present, he would move to.amend that the body take a recess
<br />of fifteen minutes to hea~ M~. _Crocker's e~planation of the suit.
<br /> The amendment was adopted and t. he- ~cil went into recess.
<br /> The proposition was discussed ~ith Mr. Crocker and Messrs. Markham, Barlow, Langhorne
<br />and Privett, of the Board of Aide,men.
