Ne report that the Chief of Police appear'ed before the Committee and explained the situation. He said he thought a small automobile would be preferable to a motorcycle for the use desired and that with such automobile there would be no necessity for an increase of the police force. It is recommended that the qumstion as to whether the police force should be supplied with a motorcycles or an automobile be referred for consideration to the Police Committee. We report Progress as te traffic policeman at the corner of High and Court streets. An appropriation-of $49oo. to authorize the Sixth Ward Board to proceed with work on Coun- ty street; and an appropriatmon to repair Glasgow street, if available funds are on hand belong- lng to the Ward. It is recommended that an appropriation of $1,000. out of Sixth Ward Bond Account, be allowed for work on County street, said work to be dOne tmder the direction of the Street Com- mittee. It is recommended that the matter of repairing Glasgow street be sent back to the Street Committee for estimates of cost of same. A request of the City Treasurer to borrow eZO,O00, to,meet Our~ent Expenses for July, 1915. It is recommendedI that the request be granted and.that the following resolution be adopted therefor: Resolved, That the Treasurer be, and he is hereby, authorized to make notes in The Merchants & Farmers Bank, The Bank of Portsmouth, the Bank of~ Tidewater~ and The First National Bank of Portsmouth, to amount of Twenty Thousand D?llars ($ZO,O00.O0), to ~meet Current Expenses of the City for July, 1915; said amount to b~ =spared from revenues of the Oity for the $S5.00 to re-imburse the Portsmouth Library Association for a granolithic walk leading to the public library. Ne ~eport that, since this proposition has been rejected by the Board of Aldermen, no action is necessary by the Oommittee. An appropriation of $300~ to screen, and repair the meat and fish markets. It is recommended that a special appropriation of $500.00~ or as roach of the same as may be necessary, be allowed for the purpose named. An appronriation of $~50. to sewer Griffin street ZZ5 feet east from Washington. Items recommended that a special appropriation Of $Z50. be allow~'d for the purpose. To instruct the proper authorities to place country carts coming to market along Crawford and .South streets and sur. p~lus of such oa~s on ~{iddle street only; and to remove from the streets partmes having the benefit of country caz~ rates for stands on.the streets without paying market rental therefor. Ne find that under the Ordinances, it is the duty of the Clerk of Market to arrange such carts in the manner called for, and it is recommended that said Clerk be instructed by the Public P~eperty Committee to carry out the regulations regarding the same.
