"R~plying to your communication calling for my opinion as to the right of
the Clerk of Court to charge the City for services rendered in making up the record in the case
of Ellis B. Jcbson against the City~ tho Clerk receiving a salary of .~600.per annum~ paid by
the City, I beg to say:
"That I can find nothing in the general law, nor in the City Charter, nor in th~ ordinano'e
allowing such compensation, which deprives him of his fees fixed by law~ for such services. Hence
I conclude that the bill D~es~nted by him is proper and should be allowed.
~I have been requested by his Honor, the Mayor, to give my opinion as to the right of the
Clerk of the Cour~ to use ~he stationery furnished by the City for his own private use and for
those from whom he receives compens.ation, to which i reply that neither he nor any other offi-
cer has such a right. It is but fair to the Clerk to say that he denies such to be the case.
