Co~mOn <br /> <br />Council--Board of Aldermen. <br /> <br />Gentlemen:-- Your Ordinance Committee <br /> <br />respectfully reports herein concerning the following matters refe~ed tO the Joint Ordinance <br /> <br />Committee July 15 and June i?~ 1915: <br /> <br /> Referred by Common Council July 13th. <br /> <br /> Advisability of an ordinance requiring all delivery wagons to be properly equipped with <br />non-d.vip taps or faucets, &c. <br /> It is recommended that the following ordinance be adopted to cover same: <br /> An Ordinance <br />to Amend and Re-ordain Section 3?8 of the City Ordinances in Relation to Oil Delivery ~agons or <br />Tanks. <br /> Referred by Boa~d of Aldermen June 17~h. <br /> <br /> A petition of the Board of Police Commissioners for the creation by ordinance of an "auxi- <br />liary" police force of $3 men, consisting of the SS men now called by the Department as "sub- <br />stitutes." <br /> · e have considered this matter and recommended the adoption of the following therefor: <br /> <br /> An Ordinance to Amend and R~-ordain Section 301 of the City Ordinances in Rela- <br />tion to the Police Force. <br /> (Signed) C.N. Houghton, Vice-Chairman. <br /> <br /> On motion, under the rules, the recommended ordinances were ordered to lie on t~e table <br />for thirty days. <br /> <br /> Ferries-- <br /> Hon. Common Council--Board of Aldermen. <br /> Gentlemen:-- At a meeting of your Joint <br />Ferry Committee held Thursday, August 5th, together with the Joint Ferry Committee of Norfolk <br />County, to consider the matter referred to it April SOth relative to-acquiring additional nro- <br />pe~ty for ferry purposes in the City of Norfolk, recommends that the City of Portsmouth an~d Nor- <br />folk County acquire the property known as ~Newtbns ~harf" on the east side of the present docks <br />in Norfolk, as follows: <br /> Beginning at a point of present ferry property, thence running east on <br />Port Warden.line 125 feet, more or iess~ thence north 850 feet, more or less, thence west 140 <br />feet on Nivmson St., and thence south ~50 feet, more or less, to the point of beginning. <br /> And that an offer be mad~ for said property ~f One Hundred and Two Thousand Five Hundred <br />and Twenty-five Dollars ($i0S, 5~..00), and in the event of purchase the City to pay one-half of <br />purchase price and the County one-half. <br /> (Signed) Grover C. Common Council--Board of Aldermen. <br /> Gentlemen:- <br /> At a meet, <br />lng of the ~oard of Sinking Fund Commissioners held July ~th, your request to b~rrow balance <br />of the Sinkmng Fund on hand amounting to $10, OSS. E4, to be used for General City Purposes, was <br />consented to by said Commissioners. <br /> (Signed) L.P. Starer, Clerk. <br /> <br /> On motion, the report was.received and ordered to record. <br /> <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS. <br /> <br /> First. Matters adopted by the COmmon Council July 13th and referred to the Board of Alder- <br />men for concurrence. <br /> <br /> To refer to Finance Oommittee with power to act as to an appropriation, Order of Court ex- <br />tending the time of Assessors of Real Estate to October l, 191B. <br /> <br /> To allow ~special appropriation of $100. for suction sleeve for Independent Engine. <br /> <br /> To authorize the Treasurer to renew notes to amount of $87,699.99, falling due in August, <br />lglB. <br /> <br /> To grant the City Cle=k a thirty day leave of absence a~ter the regular July meeting of the <br />Board of Aldermen. <br /> <br /> To authorize the Finance Co~lttee to advertise for sale of $S00,000. of bonds for a water <br />pl~ut. <br /> <br /> To authorize the Public Property Committee to advertise for ~ias to enlarge, &c., Grimes <br />Battery Gun Room. <br /> <br /> To request the Board of Sinking Fund Commissioners to lend the City the balance of $10,0~. <br />E~ fo= General Expenses. <br /> <br />To allow an appropriation of $S, 000. to enlarge, &c., Grimes Battery Gun Room. <br /> <br /> <br />
