<br /> M~. Barlow said that he wished to bring up a ~atter not specified in the "call," which was
<br />to allow the Police Justice the privilege Of ~the ft~ to explain his position in regard to a
<br />rumo~ going at large that he had vacated his seat in the Poli6e Court to argue a matter in which
<br />he was personally interested, and that the acting Justice as well as himself had received pay
<br />for that day'~s eervice~
<br /> On motion, theCom~cil took a recess of five minutes to hear from the Police Justice in
<br />the matter.
<br /> Mr. Thomas, the Police Justice, then explained his position, seemingly to the satisfaction
<br /> of the bodies.
<br /> M~. Oorbitt stated also that before adjournment, he wished to extend an invitation to the
<br />Council from the ladies of the Portsmouth Public Library Association, to visit the Library and
<br />partake of some refreshments there.
<br /> The invitation was accepted.

<br /> The following resolution was adopted for the renewal of such notes:

<br />Bank of Portsmouth, the Bank of Tidewater, and ~he First National Bank of Port~mouth, to amount
<br />of Fift~-eeven Thousand Five Hundred Dollars($5?,BOO~00), falling due in Octooer, 1~15~ said
<br />amount to be repaid from revenues of t~e City for the current year.
