October 1$, 1915. <br /> <br />referred to the Joint Public Property & Schools Committee September 14-Blst, 1915: Referred by Two branches Sep.tember t~-2.1st. <br /> <br /> The Auditor authorized to pay bills for work on a room for the Plumbing Inspector in the <br />Armistead Building, when the bills for same are approved by the Public Property Committee. <br /> We report that this matter is being attended to. <br /> Authorized to advertise for bids for a heating plant and for water and sewerage pipe con- <br />nections at the City Jail; and empowered to make award for the work and to report result of its <br />action subsequently to Council. <br /> As authorized to do, we have advertised for bids for same and have received the fol- <br />lowing therefor: <br /> From: <br /> N. V. Pearson, <br /> P. J. Riley, 890.00 <br /> <br /> N. V. Pearson being the lower bidder for same, and he being otherwise satisfactory to <br /> the Committee, we have~ade award to him for the work, as empowered, to do by the Council. <br /> Referred by Common Council September !~th. <br /> <br /> AdVisability of selling the~ J~il lot a~d appropriating the money derived from the sale <br /> wards purchasing sufficient ground ~pon which to build a high school. (Mayor's Message,).. <br /> We do not recommend the sale of the Jail lot at this time. <br /> Referred by Board of Aldermen September Eist. <br /> <br /> To consider for the Budget of 1916 repa.irs to the vegetable market. <br /> . We fee~ it to be inadvisabXe a~ this time to r.ecommend an appr.o?riation ~for this pur- <br /> pose; but we do recommend that your. City. <br /> The Vice-Chairman of the COmmittee explained that i~ woul~ maxe quzme an appropr~ammon <br />to fix up the old marke$ and his commmttee thought it desirable to ascertain at what price the <br />Central Market could be purchased. <br /> Then the report was adopted, the recommended appropriations being referred to the Finance <br />Commit.tee. <br /> <br />UNFINIS~D BUSINESS. <br /> <br /> First. Matters adopted by the Common Council September l~th and referred to the Board of <br />Aldermen for concurrence. <br /> <br /> To appoint a special committee to consider the re-adjusting or modification of the existing <br />methods by legislative enactment looking to ~ smaller one body council with enlarged powers. <br />(Mayor's Message~. <br /> Concurred in. <br /> <br /> To appoint five de2e~atee, three from the Oommon Council and two from the Bgamd of Alde=- <br />men~ to attend the Conventi°n of the League of ~irginia Municipalities in Fredericksburg,. Octo- <br />ber 12th and t3th; and to-refer to Finance Commxttee for an appropriation not. to exceed $i~0. to <br />pay expenses of said delegates. <br /> ~oncurred in. <br /> <br /> To authorize the Presidents of the two branches of Council to execute an agre with <br />the Seaboard Air Line Railway and the Atlantic Coast Terminal <br />owned bY them, fronting approximately 140 feet on North~Court <br />said property to be used as a park cz playground for small children; if use can <br />be secured without cost to the City as rental, said agreement being executed after same has been <br />approved by the City Attorney. <br /> Referred to the Park Commission by ~he Board of ~ldermen ~o report as to advisability <br />of same and cost. <br /> <br />At this point, on motion, the former action of this body in <br />with regard to using the north end of Oourt street, &c., for a~park or <br />and the action of t~e Board of Aldermen in referring the matter to the was con- <br />o~rred in. ~ <br /> <br /> The Board concurred also in all recommendation of Committees adopted by the Common Coun- <br />cil September 14th, ex~ept recommendation of t~e Fi~ano? 9omm~te_e ~h~t an.appropriation not to <br />exceed $450, he,made for'the purchase of a Fora rmnaoou~ zor ~ne PO~e Department. <br /> <br /> <br />
