For Eajority.
~inority Report:
"Hon~ Common Council--Board of Aldermen.
"Gentlemen:-- i herewith submit
a minority report to the Fire'Committee's report. Neg to state that we opened bids for Fire
Hose aud Tripple Combinmtion Pumping ~E~gine and in my opinion, without giving th~se mmtters
proper consideration a~.d investigation a~d almost without discussion in the Commmttee, the
recommendation of Zhe majority was rushed through. I reserved a~ that time the right ~o in-
vestigmte myself s~ud if my investigation justified it, to bring m'n a minority report.
~I immediately w~ote letters to a number of people but the time being so short have only
had time to hear from a few but from those I did hemr from was sufficient for me to request
your honorable body to refer this matter back to the Committee for thorough investigation.
This is not a matter of a few hundred do~lars but thousands and there appears to be 'other en-
gines just ms good,i~ not better, than the L~France for less money, as the a~tached copy of
letter will show, and I ~lso believe that the ~50 g~llon engine will meet the requirements of
our City far better than that recommended by the majority, which a further investigation will
probably show.
I am not opposed to purchasing this equipment, but wish only to do for the City what I
would do for myself personally, fully investigate and then get the best in my judgmen~ as cheap
as I could.
Yours respectfully,
