<br /> The following sections of the License Tax Ordinance for 1~16-17:

<br />to sell, or manufacture and sell, wine, ardent spirits or malt liquors, or any mixture thereof:
<br />by wholesale, $175. for 6 months.
<br />"Each person or agent for the sale of malt liquors or~y by wholesale, $100. for 6 months.
<br />"E~ch barroom or retail liquor store, $135. for 6 months. But if concerts, exhibitions

<br /> "Each malt liquor saloon, $?5- for-6:months.
<br /> "Wholesale and retail liquor dealers, each person or firm, $200. for 6 months.
<br /> "All retail liquor dealers, where clubs, social or otherwise, are permitted on same pre-
<br />mimes, $225. for 6 months.
<br /> "Emch social club, organized sinp$ April 16, 1903, selling alcoholic or malt liquors,
<br />$150. for 6 months.
<br /> ~"Each resident or non-resident beer wagon, $40. for 6 months."

<br />And his disapproval of the following s~iopted by the two branches March 21-May ~th, 1916:

<br /> "That H~tton stree~ be opened, from London to High, at a 9cst not to exceed $20,000.00;
<br />Mr. H. L. Alexander to zinance the whole proposition of acquirmng the Rosenbaum Estate and
<br />the property of E. B. Wilkins, and that he be given the City's note for s~me, without interest,
<br />payable July 1, 1~1~, Er. Alexander to be required to grade said strip of land to correspond
<br />with High and London streets, at his own expense, as in accordance with his letter attached."

<br /> "As there was some question as to the legality of
<br />this transaction under our Constitution and Charter, ~ deemed it wise to submit it to the City
<br />Attorney for his opinion.
<br /> "The opinion of the City Attorney accompanies this com~unication, in ~nich, .after giving
<br />his reasons, he says: 'The Resolution in question received a vote of ten members of the Com-
<br />mon Council out of a total membership of that branch of twenty-two. This, in my Judgment,
<br />is not sufficient and the resolution was not legally adopted.'~

<br /> A petition was read from the City Collector requesting that his office be ~urnzshed with
<br />a fire proof door for the old vault and also a steel money chest.
<br /> On motion, the petition was referred to the Public Property & Schools Committee.

<br /> Er. Privett moved to refer to Public Property & Schools Committee the a~lvisability of
<br />removing the shutters from the lower part of the Cottrt House. The motion was adopted.

<br /> On motion of Mr. Browne, the question of repairing the feed room of the Park View engine
<br />house was referred to the Public Property & Schools Committee.
<br />
<br /> M~v. Csmr moved to refer to Finance ~ud Public Property & Schools Committees the advisa-
<br />bility of having one more paid man in each engine house. The motion was s~iopted.

<br /> By the same, that the Public Property & Schools Committee be authorized to obtain bids
<br />for repairsrto the Court House. ~ne me, ion w~s adopted.

<br /> By the same, that the Public Property & Schools Committee be authorized to obtain bids
<br />for repairing and padnting windows and ~&tters of the Seaboard Earket, second story.
<br /> The motion was adopted.

<br /> By the s~me, that the Public Property & Schools Committee be authorized to obtain bids
<br />to build ~ room and put in a bath tub for the Union Fire Company, out of $130. allowed in th~
<br />Budget for same. The motion w~s ~dopted.

<br /> On motion of ~r. Ca, r, the s~ivisability of a light on Cmroline street was referred to the
<br />Light Committee.

<br /> On motion of Mr. Privett, an appropriation of $79.60 for ~ pipe connection of the Jail Lot
<br />with the w~ter m~in on Washington street wms referred to the Finance and Public Property &
<br />Schools Committee.
