Hay !6, 1916. <br /> <br />and hose for the City. The motion was &dopted. <br /> <br /> By.the same, to refer to Finance Committee an appropriation of $200. for the purpose of <br />paving Wythe street, east of Court, with paving blocks taken from the Union Bridge Causeway. <br /> The motion was adopted. <br /> <br />Er. Earkhampresented the following resolution~ which was referred to the Firs Committe~: <br /> <br /> ~ereas~ a certain section of the City of Portsmouth, Va., origin~llykno,~-~ as the <br />town of Go~P~rt, has been without firs protection ever since the land was patented by Veil and <br />subsequently by an act of the General Assembly of Vi~ginia~ together b~'the land p~tented by <br />Crawfford, incorporated~as the town of Portsmouth in the year of 1858 A. D.~ <br /> "And ~nereas, several children have lost their lives on account of inadequate fire <br />protection, <br /> "Be It Resolved, That the app~atus now located in.~arshmll ~a~d be transferred to <br />Eadison Wa~d and the Fire Committee be and is authorized tc make the necessary arrangements <br />for the said transfer of the said apparatus." <br /> <br /> ~n motion of L~r. Cart, the advisability of Selling theold stone taken out of the streets <br />when paving is done wms referred to the Street Committee. <br /> <br /> On motion of Er. Browne, an ~opropriation of $1600. for the W~e_ Commission was referred <br />to the Finance Committee. <br /> <br /> On motion of Er. Browne, the leaky condition of the fer~y smeamer "New York" v~s referred <br />to the Ferries & Public Docks Committee. <br /> <br /> Er. M~rkham moved to-refer to the City Attorney the report of the Public Property & Schools <br />Committee in reference to the purchase of certain property for the purpose of erecting m High <br />School building for white children at a cost of $19,500. to ~scertain from him whether the <br />po~t was adopted by the vote ~s announced by the President pro. tempore, Er. Langhorne, viz: <br />seven votes By members of the Board of Aldermen representing the five Old ~ards~of the City, <br />and one vote cast by-Er. Frey, a member representing the Sixth Ward. <br /> The motion was adopted. <br /> <br />On motion, <br /> <br />adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
