Hay !6, 1916. and hose for the City. The motion was &dopted. By.the same, to refer to Finance Committee an appropriation of $200. for the purpose of paving Wythe street, east of Court, with paving blocks taken from the Union Bridge Causeway. The motion was adopted. Er. Earkhampresented the following resolution~ which was referred to the Firs Committe~: ~ereas~ a certain section of the City of Portsmouth, Va., origin~llykno,~-~ as the town of Go~P~rt, has been without firs protection ever since the land was patented by Veil and subsequently by an act of the General Assembly of Vi~ginia~ together b~'the land p~tented by Crawfford, incorporated~as the town of Portsmouth in the year of 1858 A. D.~ "And ~nereas, several children have lost their lives on account of inadequate fire protection, "Be It Resolved, That the app~atus now located in.~arshmll ~a~d be transferred to Eadison Wa~d and the Fire Committee be and is authorized tc make the necessary arrangements for the said transfer of the said apparatus." ~n motion of L~r. Cart, the advisability of Selling theold stone taken out of the streets when paving is done wms referred to the Street Committee. On motion of Er. Browne, an ~opropriation of $1600. for the W~e_ Commission was referred to the Finance Committee. On motion of Er. Browne, the leaky condition of the fer~y smeamer "New York" v~s referred to the Ferries & Public Docks Committee. Er. M~rkham moved to-refer to the City Attorney the report of the Public Property & Schools Committee in reference to the purchase of certain property for the purpose of erecting m High School building for white children at a cost of $19,500. to ~scertain from him whether the po~t was adopted by the vote ~s announced by the President pro. tempore, Er. Langhorne, viz: seven votes By members of the Board of Aldermen representing the five Old ~ards~of the City, and one vote cast by-Er. Frey, a member representing the Sixth Ward. The motion was adopted. On motion, adjourned.
