<br /> The report having been read, Er. Markham said he objected to the recommended appropriation
<br />of $1600. to the Water Commission and moved that all of the section with regard to payment of
<br />bills held up by ~he Auditor ~ollow~ng the words "out of mpprop~iation in the Budget for 'Horses~
<br />be struck out. The motion was adopted.

<br />spectfully reports herein concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Street Commit-
<br />tee April ll~lSth, 1916:

<br /> Requested to give the Finance Committee an estimmte of the cost of placing names of streets
<br />on street corners in ~est Park View.
<br /> This cost will not exceed $25.00 and will be paid for out of some funds now on hand.
<br />
<br /> A petition of The Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. for permission to lay a conduit on
<br />Crawford street, between High and Queen; and in th%~altey east of Crawfordstreet, between High
<br />and Queen; as per attached copy of d~awing.
<br /> It is recommended ~hat the petition be granted, the work to be done under the super-
<br />vision of the City Engineer, and with the proviso ~at a conduit be reserved in same for use
<br />of the City.

<br /> A request of the Sixth W~rd Boa~vd that some definite action be taken to abate the flooding
<br />of Second avenue and Columbi~ street, in the Sixth and Seventh Wards, by rain fall ~nd wash
<br />water from the two ice plants nearby.
<br /> It is recommended that this matter be sent to the Seventh ~ard Board, requesting
<br />them to look into the sa~me and make provision for their proportion of the expense for abating
<br />the flooding of said streets.

<br />The filling up of Gander Creek with mud by the S. A. L. Railway Co.
<br /> We report that this condition has been remedied.
<br />
<br /> In connection with Street Paving, it is further reco~ended that the Virginim Rail-
<br />way & Power Co. be permitted to use a yO lb, T rail~with "nose. brick" next to the ra.il on t~
<br />inside for a fini~h, on Washington, Cooke, ~n-d[~Effingham s~reets, on account of said Compan~y's
<br />inability to get-Girder r~ils; and in this connection, it ~s further reoommended, t~at the Con-
<br />tractor be permitted to use t~e fire hydrants for the Purpose of getting water with which to
<br />run his mixer in connection with putting down the concrete.
<br />
<br />Finding it necessary to purchase a new Sweeper, we request tha~ we be permitted to
<br />use the $200. for "R~oairs to Sweeper" and $125. out of "Repairs to Brooms" in the Budget of
