Common Council--Boa~d of Aldermen~ Gentlemen:-- Your Ordinance Committee respectfully repo~ts herein concerning the following matter referred to the Joint Ordinance Com- mitres June 20th, 1916: Referred by Board of Aldermen June 20th. Advisability of amending Sub-section D of the "Traffic Ordinance" in relation to "General Rules o£ the Road," ~nd sub,section P Of same in relation to "GaSoline Vehicles." We have considered this matter amd it is recommended that the following ordinance be a~lopted to cover same: AN~ORDINANCE TO ~ND AND RE-ORDAIN SECTION D A~ SECTION P OF AN ORDI- NANCE ADOPTED BY THE CO~ON'COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORTSNOUTH, VIRGINIA, AUGUST ~1~, AND BY THE BOAP~ OF ALDEB~ OF SAID CITY AUGUST 20, ~912, AND APPROVED BY T~ MAYOR OF SAID CITY AUGUST 23~ 1912. AS AMENDED B~ THE SAID BODIES AND APPROVED BY THE SAID MAYOR APRIL 13, 191~, DECEMBER 15, 1~1~, AND APRIL 2~, 1915, RESPECTIVELY, REGULATING THE U~E OF TP~ROADWAYE, OR DRIVEWAYS, OF THE PUBLIC STR~-~ETS ~UD HIGHWAYS IN THE CITY OF~ORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA. Common Council--Board of Aldermen. Gentlemen:-- Your Water &.:Sewer- age Committee respectfully reports herein concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Water & Sewerage Committee May 9th, 1916: Referred by Common Council May ~th. To lay an 8-inch main, instead of 4-inch m~in, on the corner of Third and Wythe streets, under the supervision of the City Engineer. It is recommended that the Common Council concur with the Bos~rd of Aldermen in autho- rizing the laying of the 8-inch main, the cost of same to come out of general funds of the Sewer- age Dspartment~ (Signed) T.F. Matters adopted by the Board of Aldermen June 20th and referred to the Common Coun- cil for concurrence. To appropriate SHOO. for the purpose of paving Wythe street, blocks ta~ken from the Union Bridge Causew&y. Referred to the Street Committee by the Common Council. east of Court, with paving Second. Matters adopted by the Common Council July llth and referred to the Board of Alder- ~en for concurrence. To extend the time for the Commissioner of the Revenue tO September 1, 1916, to complete the personal property assessments and land books, and request him to be ready by that time, if pbssible. To direct the Street Committee and City Attorney to require the contractors or their bond- ing company to repair the defects on Dinwiddie street amd other streets which were paved at the time Dinwiddie street was paved. To authorize a~d instruct the Street Committee to remove the monument to Grimes Battery at the corner of Washington and South streets to parking place on Washington street. To request the P~rk Commission to submit to Council pl~us with estimates, for beautifying the parking on Washington street. On motion, a~ll of the above were concurred in and by the following vote: Ayes--Davis, Markham, Hudgins, Barlow, Ca, r, Ad,ms, PrLvett, Wilson, Browne, ~.~ (Er. Frey not voting). Third. Communications from the Mayor. A communication was re~d from the Emyo= in which he stated that Mr. R. A. Herbert w~s re- lieved from dut~ as ~ colics officer on July lYth.
