24O <br /> <br />July 18, 1916. <br /> <br />Streets-- <br /> HOn. <br /> <br />Common Council--Board of Aldermen._ <br /> Gentlemen:-- Your <br /> <br />Street Committee respect- <br /> <br />fully reports herein concerning the following matters referred to thy Joint Street C~mmittee <br />June l~th, 1916, and April 13-20th, l~lS: <br /> <br /> Referred by Common Council June l~th. <br /> <br /> A petition of A. C. Powers ~ others for a g~anolithic sidewalk on the <br />strong street, between Glasgow ~nd Holladay. <br /> Progress as to same~ <br /> <br />west side of Arm- <br /> <br /> A petition of The Chesapeske & Potomac Telephone Co. for permission to erect three poles on <br />the south side of Stonewall street, as shown by attached copy of drawing. <br /> It is recommended that the petition be granted, the work to be done under th, super- <br />vision of the City Engineer. <br /> <br /> (With Finance Committee) A petition from the Committee.for the "Commission for t~he Purchase <br />amd Improvement of Roads of Norfolk County" that ~e City assist it in the improvement of County <br />roads leading into the City. <br /> We m~ke the s~me report on this petition as ms~le by the Finauoe Committee. <br /> <br /> Attention os~lled to the condition of grating at the corner of Fourth and Wythe streets. <br /> It is recommended that a catch basin and pipe~line be put in at this location at an <br />estimated cost of SYs.00,to remedy the condition existing. <br /> <br /> A petition o£ John F. <br />Seventh, for a g~anolithic <br /> Progress. <br /> <br />Simms a~d other property owners on Jefferson street, between Sixth and <br />sidewalk on said street. <br /> <br /> Referred by two branches April 13-20th. <br /> <br /> Authorized to fix a price for the City steam roller and to sell the s~me. <br /> As authorized, we have sold the City steamroller to F. J~ McGuire for the sum of $1,0~0 <br />and we recommend that we be allowed the $1,000. received from the sale of the roller for further <br />street improvements. <br /> <br />(Slgned) <br /> <br />S. Common Council--Boa~d of Aldermen. <br /> Gentlemen:-- Your Public <br /> <br />Property & Schools Committee respectfully reports herein concerning the following mmtters referred <br />to the Joint Public Property & Schools Committee June l%th, 1916: <br /> <br />Referred by Common Council June l~th. <br /> <br /> (For expla~mtion) A bill held up by the Auditor in May to amount of $~2.00. <br /> ~e report that this bill is for seven directories fu~nishedvarious City Officers,while <br />money was approprimted in the Budget for six only. <br /> Therefore, it is recommended that $36.00, ~llowed in the Budget° be made available for <br />six of these directories and that a special ~ppropriation of $6. be made for the seventh one. <br /> <br /> ~nglne House. <br />Instructed to m~ke needed repmirs to the feed room of the Park View ~ ' ' ~ <br /> We report that this matter is being looked after. <br /> <br /> A petition of Grimes Battery to have <br />said Batte2y. <br /> P~ogress as to same. <br /> <br />suitable previsions made for <br /> <br />stabling the horses of <br /> <br /> (With Finance committee) A request of the Park Commission for approval of the employment <br />of a ms~u director, for a period not exceeding two months at ~ salary of $~3- a month ~ud ~ lady <br />director for the same time mud at ~e ~ame salsify, provided the total salaries paid come out of <br />the appropriation of $500. in the Budget of 1916. <br /> We make the same report on this request as made by the Finance Committee. <br /> <br /> A communication from The Housewives League in regard to-unsanitary condition of the vege- <br />table market. <br /> We report that we have notified Ez. Grant, ~ler~ of the Earket, to look ~ the <br />dition of smid market. <br /> <br />Whole question of insuring public buildings, ~ ~o report as to sa~e. <br /> Pfc gross. <br /> <br /> <br />
