<br />NEW BUSINESS
<br />
<br /> A petition of Alfred Davies, No. 2124 King street, to be refunded $1.80, paid in error
<br />for soil t~x for the yemr 191~, was referred to the Finance Department.
<br />
<br /> On motion, the privilege of the floor was granted to Chas. F. Harper, r~presenting the
<br />Portsmouth Associatiomof Commerce, who spoke with reference to the necessity for repaying
<br />~ater street, from Queen to London.
<br /> Whereupon, on motion of Er. Bunting, the matter was referred to the Public Property
<br />Department and City Eanager, to be considered with Mr. Harper.
<br />
<br /> Er. Cisud presented a proposition from Dr. Joseph Guthrie to sell the City a piece of
<br />grouo~i adjoining Oak Grove Cemetery for additional cemetery purposes,~or the sum of $1,000.00,
<br />said property containing about twenty lots.
<br /> He then moved that the Manager be instructed to rs'port on this proposition, together
<br />with other cemetery locations, by the next meeting of the Council. The motion was adopted.
<br /> He moved further that the time for taking up the selection of a site for additional
<br />cemetery purposes be set for next Monday, the 22nd, and said motion was adopted.
<br />
<br /> And in this connection, the City Attorney was instructed to give his written opinion
<br />t~ the Council by the meeting on the 22nd, as to the legal right of the City to purchase the
<br />piece of ground offered by Dr, GUthrie.
<br />
<br /> r. Buntzn~ moved that an appropriation of $200. be made to send the City Manager to the
<br />City E~nagers' Essooiation, which meets in Detroit, Mich., the week off November 19,-1~17.
