October 9, 1917. At this ~ime,~ 1Lv. ClsA~i, Chairman of the Public Welfare Department, submitted a tabulation of the various s~tes offeredfor~c~metery purposes, which had been m~de by the City Manager. Mr. Claud noted that the ~nmger had failed to report on the piece of g~ound west of and adjoining Oak Grove Cemetery. V~ereupon, the Eanager gave his reasons for not doing so. Mr. Herbert then moved that each Counciim~n be furnished with a copy of the tabulation, including the ground referred to by Mr. Claud; thmt the Ms~u~ger be prepared with a recomme~d~tion by the nexZ meeting of the Council, and that the Council then vote on the matter, The motion was ~dopted. Nm. Herbert called mttention to the resignation of E. Alexander Hatton as Board of Quarantine Co~issioners for ~he District of Elizabeth River, which w~s accepted by the body September 25th, and he moved that a successor to Er. Hatton be elected at this meeting. The motion w~=s adopted. Then Dr. J. D. Collins was nominated for the position and, there being no othe~ nominations, he was elected and by the following vote: Ayes-~Bunting, Claud, Hanvey, Herbert, ~ir. Herbert moved that s~u appropriation of $6~. be made to send a deleg~ze to the meeting of the Southern Commercial Congress in New York City October 15-17th, l~l?. Adopted. He moved also that the Mayor be sent as such ~leg~te. · The motion was ~doptedo On motion~ adjourned. October 16, 191?
