<br />per year, if an a~Lmission fee of over $.10 ms charged, owing to the war tax passed by Congress.
<br /> It is recommended that said license ~ax remain for the present.

<br /> A report of the City Collector that Ers. Lilley C. Hall requests to be refunded $12.93,
<br />paid in error for taxes for the year 1916.
<br /> It is recommended that said amount be refunded, and al~ that'S12.39 be refunded Mrs.
<br />Hall for the year 1917, out of Seventh Ward funds. "

<br /> A petition of the Commissioner of the Revenue that the following parties be refunded s~moun~s
<br />paid in error for taxes and be relieved from paymept of taxes, &c.: Rev. V. G. Smith to be re-
<br />funded $~.20, because of error in assessment of $1~00. in bank for the year 1916, and to be re-
<br />lieved of the payment of $4.20 on said amount fez the year 191y; to relieve Agnes C$~alty and
<br />Margaret Shaw of the .payment of taxes on $1400. assessment on three lots, Fourth street and
<br />Key avenue, for the years 1916 and 1917, same having been a double assessment$ ~o relieve ~. Ray
<br />Hutchins from the payment of $6.00 tax on an-automobile; to refund N. D. Eastwood's estate $~.0~,
<br />on account 6f error in assessment cf p~pert~ on South North street, for the year 1916, a~d
<br />the same ~mount for the year 1917; and ~c refund Charles E. Lawrence $1.Y7, paid in error for
<br />taxes on lot No. t0, block 1~, N. Nelson street.
<br /> It is recommended that said parties be refunded the amounts paid in error and be re-
<br />lieved from payment of the amounts requested.

<br /> On motion, the report of the D~partment was adopted and bY the following vote:

<br /> At this point, the City Nanager recommended the establishment of a detention house for
<br /> tubercular patients, the house to cost about $5,000.00.
<br /> Whereupon, Mr. Wright wished to know what it would cost to m~intain such a house.
<br /> After some discussion of the matter, Er. Herbert moved to refer same to the Finance De-
<br /> partment and City Eanager to consider for the Budget of 1918. The motion was adopted.

<br /> The City ~an~g~r requested also an appropriation of $~20. for four box stands for traffic
<br /> policemen, and same was allowed by the following vote:
<br /> Ayes-- Bunting, Claud, Wright,
<br /> Hanvey, Herbert, Deans, Culpepper, ?.
<br /> On request of the Manager, an additional appropriation of $38. was allowed for the gate
<br /> at the Oak Grove Cemetery, making the total appropriation for same $68.00.

<br />The Man, get stated that he h~d purchased ?00 feet of new hose at $1.20 per foot and,
<br />though he believed he w~s fully a~thorized to ma~ke the purhcass, he desired to h~ve the Council
<br /> approve of his action.
<br /> After some discussion of the matter, Mr. Herbert moved that $8~0. be made available to
<br /> pay for the hose. The motion was adopted, and by the following vote:

<br /> NEW BUSINESS
<br />
<br /> A petition of W. G. G~ay, P. T. Cherry, and Noah Hoffler for their pay to be increased
<br />from $3.OO to $3.50 per day, was referred to the Finance Department, With the City Eanager.
<br />
<br /> A petition from drivers of public automobiles that the use of jitney signs.be abolished
<br />was referred to the ~epartment of Law with the City ~an~ger.
<br />
<br /> A protest from merchants on High street against allowing colored jitney drivers to use as
<br />stand High s~reet, between Craw"ford and Water, was referred to the Department of Law and the
<br />City M~nager for consideration.
<br />
<br /> A bill of the Commissioner of the Revenue to amount of $67~.61, as commission allowed
<br />by the State Law on taxes assessed for the year 191~, was presented and was allowed by the
<br />following vote:
<br /> Ayes--~mnting, Claud, Wright, H~nvey, Herbert, Deans, ~ulpepper, 7.
