January 10, 1995 <br />CITY MANAGER' S REPORT - <br /> <br />95-13 Letter from the City Manager recon~nending adoption of an <br />ordinance to appropriate $150,000 from the Capital Improvements <br />Fund for demolition of the Frank D. Lawrence Staditun. <br /> <br /> "On November 21, 1994; the School Board approved the <br />Economic Development site plan for Norcom High School. The <br />revised plan requires the relocation of Frank D. Lawrence <br />football field; and therefore, it is necessary that the existing <br />stadium be demolished. <br /> <br /> The Director of Public Works recommends that $150,000 be <br />appropriated to complete this demolition work. I concur with <br />the Director of Public Works and, with your approval of the <br />item, the balance in the Capital Improvements Fund will be <br />$9,242,251." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Hawks, to adopt <br />the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $150,000.00 FROM THE CAPITAL <br />IMPROVEMENTS FUND FOR DEMOLITION OF THE FRANK D. LAWRENCE <br />STADIUM." <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />Nays: Griffin <br /> <br />95-14 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of an <br />ordinance to appropriate $80,000 towards construction of a third <br />General District Courtroom to be located on the second floor of <br />711 Crawford Street. <br /> <br /> A. An ordinance to appropriate $80,000 from the Capital <br />Improvements Fund for the preparation of architectural plans and <br />for the preparation and~monitoring of asbestos abatement. <br /> <br /> B. A motion to award the design contract to Williams, <br />Tazewell and Associates, and the contract for preparation and <br />monitoring of asbestos abatement to BCM Engineers. <br /> <br /> "A third courtroom is required for the General Distric~t <br />Court on the second floor of 711 Crawford Street. Demolition of <br />the existing partitions, asbestos removal, and reconstruction of <br />the new courtroom are included in this project. <br /> <br /> At this time, it is necessary to award the contract for <br />preparation of the architectural plans to Williams, Tazewell and <br />Associates and the contract for preparation and monitoring of <br />asbestos abatement to BCM Engineers. Both firms were previously <br />selected through the public procurement process. The total <br />appropriation is as follows: <br /> <br />BCM Engineers <br />Williams, Tazewell and Associates <br />Contract Administration <br />Contingencies <br /> <br />$30,600 <br />$24,500 <br />$ 5,000 <br />$19,900 <br /> <br />TOTAL ANTICIPATED COST <br /> <br />$80,000 <br /> <br /> The Director of Public Works recommends award of a design <br />contract to Williams, Tazewell and Associates and asbestos <br />abatement contract to BCM Engineers and an appropriation in the <br />amount of $80,000 to complete this work. <br /> <br /> I concur with the Director of Public Works and, with your <br />approval of this item, the balance in the Capital Improvements <br />Fund will be $9,162,251." <br /> <br /> <br />
