<br /> Rev. ~. Poulson presented a petition from officials and menfoers of the Park View Metho-
<br />dist Episcopal Church and of t~ First Congregational Clnn~ch, 'and from property owners and
<br />residents, on Webster Average, asking that said street be paved, ~ivi~g~[of.flbo~~ being.exten-
<br />ded, Raw,~ ~-;: ~Pet~lson and several others spoke ~gir~g that the street be paved, and then the
<br />petition was referred to the Department of Public Service and the City ~Lanager,

<br /> 0n motion, the privilege of the floor was extmuded to ~. ~enerable, attorney'for the ~.
<br />Railway& Power Co., who stated that the "one-man cars~ previously used .in the i~y, were still
<br />on hand and if tB~ Council-dpes not grant them pernuission to use the ce~s~ they will be sent
<br />to so~e other City. No action was taken on the matter.

<br /> The privilege of the floor was granted to representatives from Labor Locals,and ~. LeDoyen
<br />and others.spoke asking that an increase in pay be allowed the street laborers.

<br /> The C~ef of Police was granted theTloor also, and he spoke urgim~ that the requested
<br />increase in pay for policemen be allowed.

<br />The following resolution of the West~l~or-.o!k Civic League was presented by Mr Herbert:

<br />earnestlyappeal to the PortSmouth City Council to have this bridge replaced at once. Pending

<br />plished in four or five hours and with very little material in cost.~

<br /> On motion of ~. Herbert, an additional approl~riation of ~,000. for Labor, Sewerage, Street
<br />Clearing, and Trash & Garbage Accounts, .was referred to the F~r~nce Department.

<br /> The following resolution was presented by Mr. Herbert .and was adopted:

<br />the School Board be authorized to proceed with closing the contract for the new.colored school,
<br />and tt.~at tb~ remount in excess of the money appropriated~.be taken c~e of by the School Board
<br />until the City CotmCil shall be in a position to take care of same.~

<br /> Mr. Deans moved that the Humane Society be allowed to place a drimklr~ fountain at the cor-
<br />ner of C~awford and South streets, and same was referred te the Public Service Department and
<br />City ~ger.

<br /> Mr. ~,r~gh% stated that he apyroved of the dance gz en on Jul~ .th az the f~ou of curt
<br />street in connection with the Home-Coming Celebration, and asked that~such dances be continued
<br />once a week.
<br /> 0n motion, ~he matter was referredto the City Manager to report as to the advisability
<br />of contin~.ir~ the dances.

<br /> Mr.-WriEht presented a communication from B.E. Cook with regard to'the totalamountof Ii-
<br />cerise taxes paid by him on property ownedby him situate on the west sm e of~% street, and
<br />same was referred to the City Manager.

<br /> Mr. Claud called attention to condition of South and Pearl streets, and same was referred

<br /> Mr. Claud moved that the City Manager be instructed to report on the planning..of the new
<br />cemetery. The motion was adopted.

<br /> On motion, the advisability of installing two lights on the Boulevard and the.walk %eadin~
<br />to the Naval Hospital, was referred to the Department of Public Safety.
