March 14, 1995 <br /> <br />95-120 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of <br />an ordinance to appropriate $134,000 to relocate utilities, and <br />affected sidewalks, curbs and gutters on North Street, and a <br />motion to award the construction contract in the amount of <br />$114,218. <br /> <br /> A. An ordinance to appropriate $46,000 from the Public <br />Utilities Capital Improvements Fund and $88,000 from the Capital <br />Improvements Fund for relocation of utilities and replacement of <br />the affected sidewalk, curbs and gutters. <br /> <br /> B. A motion to award the construction contract to Precon <br />Construction Company. <br /> <br /> "The Comfort Inn is constructing a new motel at the old <br />Social Services Building on North Street. In working with the <br />Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority, an agreement was <br />reached for the relocation of the existing sewer and drainage <br />lines to accommodate the new facility on this site. <br /> <br /> Bids were received on March 2, 1995 for relocation of the <br />utilities and replacement of the affected sidewalk and curb and <br />gutter. The bids were competitive and favorable with today's <br />construction market (see Attachment No. 1). The total <br />anticipated project costs are calculated as follows: <br /> <br />Construction Contract <br /> (Precon Construction Company) <br />Traffic Engineering <br />Contract Administration and Inspection <br />Contingencies <br /> <br />$114,218.40 <br /> <br />$ 800.00 <br />$ 9,000.00 <br />$ 9,981.60 <br /> <br />TOTAL ANTICIPATED PROJECT COST <br /> <br />$134,000.00 <br /> <br /> The Director of Public Works recommends an appropriation of <br />$46,000 from the Public Utilities Capital Improvements Fund. An <br />appropriation of $88,000 from the Capital Improvements Fund will <br />be provided by the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing <br />Authority for a total appropriation of $134,000. The Director <br />also recommends that a contract be awarded to the low bidder, <br />Precon Construction Company, in the amount of $114, 218. <br /> <br /> I concur with the Director of Public Works and recommend <br />your approval of this item." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Clemons, and seconded by Mr. Hawks, to adopt <br />the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINA/~CE TO APPROPRIATE $46,000.00 FROM THE PUBLIC <br />UTILITIES CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS FUND FOR THE COMPLETION OF THE <br />SANITARY SEWER RELOCATION AND $88,000.00 FROM THE CAPITAL <br />IMPROVEMENTS FUND FOR THE RE-ROUTING OF STORM DRAINAGE LINES AT <br />NORTH AND EFFINGHAM STREETS." <br /> <br />Ayes: Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />Nays: Clemons <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Hawks, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to award <br />the construction contraction to relocate utilities and to <br />replace affected sidewalks, curbs and gutters on North Street, <br />and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> <br />
