<br />95-119 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of
<br />an ordinance to appropriate $82,057 from the Capital
<br />Improvements Fund for installation of storm drainage
<br />improvementS, and a motion to award the contract to Abby
<br />COnstruction Company.

<br /> A. An ordinance to appropriate $82,057 for installation of
<br />storm drainage improvements on Teal Street, Charlotte Drive
<br />between Teal Street and Portsmouth Boulevard and portions of
<br />Jacquel!rn Drive.
<br />
<br /> B. A motion to award the construction contract to Abby
<br />Construction Company.
<br />
<br /> "The area adjacent to the intersection of Jacquelyn Drive
<br />and Teal Street experiences frequent flooding. A means of
<br />relieving this situation is available by connecting it with the
<br />drainage in adjacent Portsmouth Boulevard. Bids were received
<br />on February 28, 1995 for installation of storm drainage
<br />improvements on Teal Street, Charlotte Drive between Teal
<br />Street and Portsmouth Boulevard, and portions of Jacquelyn
<br />Drive. These improvements include new drainage pipe and
<br />structures, curb and valley gutter.
<br />
<br /> The bids were competitive and favorable with today's
<br />construction market (see Attachment No. 1). The total
<br />anticipated project costs are calculated as follows:
<br />

<br /> The Director of Public Works recommends that a contract be
<br />awarded to the low bidder, Abby Construction Company, in the
<br />a~ount of $67,257 and requests an appropriation in the ~unount
<br />of $82,057 from the Capital Improvements Fund.
<br />
<br /> I concur with the Director of Public Works and, With your
<br />approval of this item, the balance in the Capital Improvements
<br />Fund will be $17,518,074."

<br /> Motion by Mr, PittS, and seconded by Mr. Martin, to adopt
<br />the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote:

<br />IMPROVEMENTS FUND FOR THE INSTALLATION OF STORM DRAINAGE
<br />IMPROVEMENTS ON TEAL STREET, CHARLOTTE DRIVE BETWEEN TEAL
<br />STREET AND PORTSMOUTH BOULEVARD AND PORTIONS OF JACQUELYN
<br />DRIVE."
