March 28, 1995 <br /> <br /> I, therefore, recommend the adoption of a resolution <br />appointing viewers for these applications." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Griffin, and seconded by Mr. Martin, to adopt <br />the following resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />'A"RESOLUTION APPOINTING VIEWERS FOR THE CLOSING OF PORTIONS OF QUEEN <br />STREET, LOCKPORT STREET ~ORMERLY LONDON STREET) WtLLIAM~BLrRG AVENUE <br />(FORA,IERLY SECOND AVENUE), LONDON STREET, YOR~TOWNAVENLFE (FOI~RfERLY <br />FOURTH AVENUE OR GRACE STREET), ALL ALLEYS LOCATED NORTH OF HIGH STREET <br />AND SHOWN 0N PLAT RECORDED I~,THE CLERICS OFFICE FOR THE CIRCUIT COb-RT OF <br />Tt-LE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH. VIRGINIA IN iVLA_P BOOK 1 PAGE 41, WEST LAIN-E/AND A 15 <br />FOOT LANE AS DESCRIBED IN DEED BOOK 140 AT PAGE 281. <br /> <br /> W-I-IEiREJkS. the Portsmouth Redgvelopment and Housing Authority, the School Board of the <br />City of Portsmouth and the Department of Eng/neering and Technical Services of the City of <br />Portsmouth, have made applications to vacate, close and discontinue the hereinafter described <br />streets, lanes and alleys, and it appearing that Notices of Application and Request for an <br />Appointment of Viewers have been advertised as required by law. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />that Vincent T. Cherry, James V. McGehee. Carrie J. Byrum, Martha Gtovar and Otis Gene Baldwin <br />be appointed viewers and that George E. Eason and Albert J. Cart be appointed a/ternats viewers in <br />the event one of the preceding viewers fails to participate, said viewers to view the hereinafter <br />described streets, lanes and alleys, and to report to this council whether in their opinion, any, and if <br />any what, inconvenience will result in vacating and closing the following: <br /> <br />PORTION OF QUEEN STREET <br /> <br />ALL THAT certain portion of Queen Street varying in width and beginning South 87° 01' 23" West, a <br />distance of 184.06 feet from the intersection of Queen Street and Jamestown Avenue (formerly Fifth <br />Avenhe or Virginia Avenue) and thence extending in an easterly direction ~o the western right of <br />way line of Peninsula Avenue (formerly First Avenue~ a distance of approximately 1428.69 feet. <br /> <br />PORTION OF YORKTOWN AVENUE <br /> <br />ALL THAT certain portion of Yorktown Avenue (formerly Fourth Avenue or Grace Street) being 60 <br />feet in width and beginning at the intersection of Yorktown Avenue with the north right of way line <br />of High Street and thence extending in a northward direction a distance of approximately 554.73 feet <br />to the Southern boundary line of those certain parcels of property conveyed to the City of <br />Portsmouth~ Virginia by deeds recorded in the Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court of the City of <br />Portmmouth, Virginia in Deed Book 140 at page 281, and in Deed Book 140 at page 106. <br /> <br />PORTION OF LOCKPORT STREET <br /> <br />ALL THAT certain portion of Lockport Street (formerly London Street) being 60 feet in width and <br />begiob~ng at the western right o~ way line of Peninsula Aven-e (formerly First Avenue) and thence <br />extending in a westerly direction'a distance of approxqr~ ately 360.28 feet to the eastern right of way <br />line of Williamsburg Avenue (formerly Second Avenue). <br /> <br />PORTION OF LONDON STREET UNI/VrPROVED <br /> <br />ALL THAT certain portion of London Street being 60 feet in width and also that certain irregular <br />shaped portion of London Street lying on the west side of Yorktown Avenue (formerly known as <br />Fourth Avenue or Grace Street); and beg~n~ug at the western right of way line of W~ll~smsburg <br />Avenue (formerly Second Avenue) and thence extending in a wee~erly direction a distance of <br />approximately 829.74 feet to the boundaries of those certain parcels of property conveyed to the City <br />of Portsmouth~ Virginia by deeds recorded in the--Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Vir~=~a in DeedBook 140 at page 281. and in Deed Book 140 at page. 106. <br />PORTION OF WTT,I,TAMSBURG AVENUE, <br /> <br />ALL TI-LA.T certain portion of Williamsburg Avenue (formerly Second Avenue) being 60 feet in width <br />and beginning at the north right of way line of High Street; and thence extending northward a <br />distance of approximately 815.38 feet to the southern right of way line of London Boulevard. <br /> <br />ALLEYS <br /> <br />ALL THOSE certain three 12 foot wide alleys and one 10 foot wide alley located north of High Street, <br />as shown on the plat entitled, "PIat S Jane Cassells Estate Located Between Seotts Creek and SLxth <br />Avenue Portsmouth, VA," surveyed August 1919 by V. O. Cassei1 C.E.. and recorded in the Clerk's <br />Office of the Circuit Court of the City of Portsmoutt{, Virginia in Map Book 1 at page 41.
