070 <br /> <br />MarCh 28,1995 <br /> <br /> I, therefore, recommend adoption of this resolution which <br />expresses the gratitude of our City and its citizens for this <br />gift of A, J. "Junie" and Millie Lancaster." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr, Robinett, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to <br />adopt the following resolution, and was adopted by the <br />follOwing vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE GRATITUDE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH TO A. J. "JUNIE" LANCASTER AND MILLIE LANCASTER FOR <br />THEIR GENEROUS DONATION OF THE COLLECTION THAT IS KNOWN AS THE <br />"LANCASTER'TRAIN AND OLD TOY MUSEUM", FOR USE AT THE CHILDREN, S <br />MUSEUM OF VIRGINIA. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, A. J. ,Junie" Lancaster and his wife, Millie <br />Lancaster, have generously donated their life-long collection <br />of model trains and antique toys to the Portsmouth Museum <br />FOundation, Inc., for the benefit of the City of Portsmouth, <br />its citizens, and visitors; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this donation represents nearly all manufacturers <br />and gauges of model trains from 1900 to the present and is one <br />of the finest collections in the country, as well as one of the <br />most diverse; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this donation reflects Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster's <br />spirit of community pride and involvement, aS well as their <br />confidence in the future of the Children's Museum of Virginia. <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, hereby expresses its gratitude for <br />this wonderful gift, and that in recognition thereof, a copy of <br />this resolution be spread upon the minutes of this Council, and <br />a copy of ssane be presented to Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Lancaster." <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />95-151 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of <br />a resolution requesting the Commonwealth Transportation Board <br />to designate portions of Interstate 64 and Interstate 664 as <br />the "Hampton. Roads Beltway." <br /> <br /> "Senator Frederick M. Quayle and the Hampton Roads Caucus <br />have endorsed the designation of the 55 miles of Interstate 64 <br />and Interstate 664 which circles the Norfolk-Portsmouth <br />metropolitan area and links it to the Peninsula, as the <br />"Hampton Roads Beltway." Such a designation will serve to <br />unify, identify and promote the metropolitan Hampton Roads <br />area. <br /> <br /> Section 33.1-12 (4) of the Code of Virginia gives the <br />Commonwealth Transportation Board the authority to give <br />suitable n~unes to state highways, except those roads already <br />named by the General Assembly. The Board requires a resolution <br />from the governing bodies of the cities through which the road <br />passes supporting the naming of the;road. <br /> <br /> I, therefore, recommend your approval of the attached <br /> resolution designating a portion of 1-64 and 1-664 aS the <br />'"Hampton Roads Beltway." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Clemons, and <br />adopt the following resolution, <br />following vote: <br /> <br />seconded by Mr. Martin, <br />and was adopted by the <br /> <br />to <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, TO REQUEST THE COMMONWEALTH TRANSPORTATION BOARD TO <br />DESIGNATE PORTIONS OF INTERSTATE 64 AND INTERSTATE 664 AS THE <br />"HAMPTON ROADS EELTWAY." <br /> <br /> <br />
