<br /> "An Ordinance To Amend Franchises Operated.by the
<br />Virginia Railwmy and Power Company in Portsmouth in the Particulars Herein peoif~ea.
<br />
<br /> ~IER~AS, the Virginia Railwmy
<br />cents per passenger on its street railway sSstem in Portsmouth ~nd vicinity, bul has not
<br />placed said r~te in effect;
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the authorities of the City of Portsmouth desire said Company to refrmin f~om
<br />incremsing its present rate of fmre in P6r~smouth ~ud vicinity, and to attempt to increase
<br />its earnings by methods of economy and ~o increase the efficiency of its service, in oo-opermtim~
<br />with the Council of the City of Portsmouth; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS~ the Said Company is.willing to co-operate with the Council of Portsmouth in an
<br />effort to keep the rates of fare ms low as prmcticml, and to render ~he most efficient service,
<br />~nd is willing with the consent of the State Corpormtion Commission, to suspend ~he putting
<br />in effeo~ of ~ cent fa~e; and

<br />WHEREAS, this ordinauce h~s been duly advertised for 10 days as required by law,

<br />NOW, TNL~REF~RE, be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth:

<br />its street railway system in the City of Portsmouth be and the same mre hSreby amended in the
<br />following particulars:

<br /> S~otion ~_' That said Virginim'R~ilway & Power Co. be and it is hereby authorized, immedi-
<br />ately upon the taking effect of this ordinance, to discontinue and abandon the street railway
<br />line ~eginning a~ the intersection'of Coturt and County streets, thence along County street to
<br />C, dwin street,~ thence along Godwin.street to Columbia Avenue, thence along Columbia Avenue,
