0' 2 <br /> <br />April 11, 1995 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the judges of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations <br />District Court for the City of Portsmouth have expressed their <br />support for establishing such a program in Portsmouth~ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth believes <br />this program offers a beneficial and unique sentencing <br />alternative for the juvenile justice system and that a training <br />center located at a suitable location within the Haanpton Roads <br />region would be a welcome addition to programs presently <br />offered. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the Council invites Institute in <br />Basic Life Principles to consider the Hampton Roads area as a <br />location for a training center that will work with youth in <br />crisis and their families so that they can become responsible <br />and productive citizens in our community." <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />95-184 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of <br />a resolution designating the Social Services Department and <br />other agencies as coordinators of long term care services. <br /> <br /> "Section 2.1-373 of the Code of Virginia requires the <br />governing body of each city or county to designate a lead <br />agency and member agencies to accomplish the coordination of <br />long-term care services for the elderly of their localities. <br /> <br /> Once our local agencies have been so designated, their <br />representatives will form a committee to pursue the objectives <br />of coordinating and administering public long-term care <br />services for Portsmouth's elderly citizens. <br /> <br /> I, therefore, recommend adoption of this resolution <br />designating the Department of Social Services as the lead <br />agency and the Department of Public Health, the Community <br />Services Board, the Southeastern Virginia Area-Wide Model <br />Program (SEVAMP), the Mayor's Senior Citizens Committee, the <br />Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority and the local <br />Nursing Home Pre-Admission Screening Team as member agencies." <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Clemons, and <br />adopt the following resolution, <br />following vote: <br /> <br />seconded by Mr. Martin, <br />and was adopted by the <br /> <br />to <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL <br />SERVICES AS THE LEAD AGENCY AND CERTAIN MEMBER AGENCIES TO <br />COORDINATE LOCAL LONG-TERM CARE SERVICES FOR THE ELDERLY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Section 2.1-373.7 of the Code of Virginia directs <br />localities to designate a lead agency and member agencies to <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this statute was enacted to assist ~nd~viduals to <br />remain in their own homes while assuring the provision of <br />appropriate care and services to such individuals,.including <br />socialization, health care, nutrition, daily living services <br />and supportive assistance; and <br /> <br /> <br />
