The City must provide a $32,500 in-kind match for a total grant award of <br />$96,723. <br /> <br />· The mentoring program addresses several risk factors identified in the City of <br />Portsmouth's Comprehensive Prevention Plan including family history of high-risk <br />behaviors in non-traditional households. <br /> <br />· The mentoring program touches upon the four areas of a child's environment that <br />includes community, family, school and individual/peer. This will be achieved by <br />promoting a strong bond between youth and pro-social adults, development of ,positive <br />social orientation, and the development of healthy beliefs and community standards. <br /> <br />· Mentoring is one of the five promises of the national America's Promise initiative in <br />which Portsmouth committed to as a City of Promise. <br /> <br />· Last year this program provided mentors for 20 Hunt Mapp Middle School students <br />involved in the Juvenile Justice System. A total of 49 mentors signed up for the <br />program. <br /> <br /> <br />
