<br /> 1st. "The Council of the City of Portsmouth on August 22nd, 1922, pledged itself to pay
<br />all interest on cost of the road between Deep Creek and the North Carolina line, in excess of
<br />that guaranteed b~ the County~of Norfolk. The County of NOrfolk has pledged itself to pay
<br />one third of the ~nterest on $100,OOO.00 to $110,000.00 of the cost of this road. In addition,
<br />the County of Norfolk ptedged~ itself to lend the Highway Commission $38,OO0,O0 for the conK
<br />struction of the portion of the road from Portsmouth to Deep Creek and the Road Commission of
<br />Norfolk Oounty h~s donated outright $~O,000~OO additional for this portion of the road. It is
<br />estimmted that a macadam surface treated road from Deep Creek to the North Ga~olin~ line will
<br />cost $~30,O00.00, which will be adverted by,he Dismal Swamp Canal Bank Road Corporation 'of
<br />Portsmouth. If to this the $3~,000.00 pledged by the,County be added, the to~al mmount
<br />be fur~shed to the State HighWay Commission will be $168,000.00.
