August 12, 19R~

Dear General:
' Allow me to make a suggestiau in regards to. Ji~t~ey Busses. Personally I ~m_
in favor of re-routing them from High and Oourt Streets to -on~n to Crawford to High Street
and b~ck Sn the routes as at present.

By routing them this way i believe the Busses will neither work a hardshi~p
on th~ Bus Operators, the High Street Merchants or the Public.

If a patron wishes to go to any store in the down town section of High Street
he or she will only h~ve to walk one squsme either from 0curt or 0rawford Streets.

Th~ patrons who have %o use the N0r~olk F~rries will 0nly have to walk a shorZ
block the same as Street Oar patrons.

! would also suggest that the Jitneys be not allowed to stop longer than 5
~fi~e) minutes~ at Crawford and High S~reet~ whibh~ will Sltmi~atS b0ng~i0n in the Down Town
section and at the same time give the public reg~ ~ls~r se~rvioe' whio~h it does not get at present.
~ I would also suggest that some steps be taken to stop o. perators from ca=tying
women~o~ questmonable character and dl~unken~ man b~ok an~~ f$r~h"bV~ th~xr route. This is what
you ca~ oSserve any night on .the Navy Yard Route. As I work ~ights ~a~ h~ve occasio~n to use
the Jitneys between l0 and 10.30 almost every niEht I~ ~' th~se thi~gs~ otherwise I would
not care to m~ke such a statement.

The above suggestions s~e offered fom the benefit of the P~biic in general
well as the High Street merchants and the Bus operators.

Please accept these suggestions in the same friendly spirit they are offered
and nbt as a critioism~ ~

With best wishes and assurance of my highest esteem,

Sincerely yours,

H. J. Emaemer."

On motion, the communications were re-referred to the City N~m~ger for re-consideration
and report.

· 3rd.
