The following communications were read from the O~y Ma~uager:
let. "Z am forwarding
herewith plan and estimat~ from the City Enginee~ showing proposed changes in storm~rains
at High and Washington Sts. and at the north end of Washington St., which it is believed
will l~rgely relieve the flood oonditions~at Washington and High St~. The estimated cost
is $3,500.00. I recommend that this work be now authorized and that provision be m~de for
it in the sewer bond issue for 1925."

On motion, t~e recommendation was referred to the Finance 0onmuittee.

2nd. Forward report of the following lot and gr~ve sold in the Oak Grove Oemetery during'
the month of October, 1924:

October 16th, to Ch~s. H. Myers, adult grave, Ave. D, _3!6, N.H.
31st, Chas. M. Andrews, No. ~31, A.S.H.

~ ~n motion of Mr. Cast, the Oity Attorney~wam~instructed to dmaft deed for the lot
~old,Ttne proper 0ity Officers were ~uthorizedtoexeeut~ the deed.

3rd. "With reference to petition of certain residents and te~x~payers on the west side
of Linden Ave. between Spratley ~ud Bay Sts. to have sidewalk, paved, I beg to state that I
have already recon~ended to the Oo~uuoil that the Oity announce its policy of not providing
sidewalks in the future. I therefore amcompelled to recommend adversely on ~his petition.
Mr. Brooks moved that this petition be laid on the table until s~oh time as final
actio~is taken on the sidewalk pa~ing program. The motion was adopted.

4th. "I am forwarding herewith papers relative to claim of Arohie Harrison ~gainst the
City, with a letter from the 0ity Attorney, coveringthe claim. Harrigon was injured by the
car of the Chief of the Fire Department on October 8th, 192~.

~ccording to the evidence which I have been able to get, the Chief was going
north on Oour~ St. and after ke passed the monument~a Ford oar badly parked forced him to
swerve to the left to avoid striking it. He~rrison was standing ~r the car track and ac-
cording to his evidence, looked to the north ~stead of the south and w~s consequently struck
and rather painfully injured. He is asking for $500~O0 fro~ the CitY.

The Oity Atto_~u~ey gives the opinion that the O~y is not liable,' but states this
particular c~se is rather anunfor~nate one as no one seems to be at fault and it might
be that the Council would desire to compensate Harrison for his loss. I 'would recommen~ that
he be paid $500.00, provided he will agree that this shall be in fulI se~tlemen~ of any claims
~gainst the Oity or against the ~hief of the Fire Depsmtment."

On motion, the recommendation was referred to the Finance Oommittee.

5th. ~The Transportation Supervisor has recommended to me the following, which I quote
w~th m~y own recommendation~ thereon:

1.- That N~a~y Yard busses not be routed down Middle St. but continue dow~ High St. tO
0rawford and turn north on Orawford to Queen, as these busses now pass on Oourt St. within
one block of the new City Ms~vket. Approval ~ecommended.

2- That the disembamking point be chan~ed to the ~orth-east corner of Orawford and
High,ts. No~recommende~, as this would pu~ the emb~rEing and disembarking points opposite
each other aud would sermously obstruct traffic on 0rawford St.

The Transportation Supervisor also feels that the 100 ft. space reserved at the em-
barking and disembarking points would be sufficient instead of reserving the entire square.
This is recommended.

3- Parking to be prohibited on the west side of Middle St. between Hig~and County Sts.
and on the mSouth side of County between Middle and ~rawford Sts. ~ud that on Orawford between
High s~d Oounty ets. all cars should be ps~rked Ps~raliel with the~g~rb. The first of these
recommendations has already been provided for; the other two ar~ommended by me.

4- That busses dis~mb~rk~ their p~ssengers on High St. ~t the Southwest co~ner of High
and Middle Sts. ~ud that the street cars turn into Middle St. before disembarking passengers.
Approval recommended."

Mr. Stewart (J.R.) moved that s~me be laid on the table until the next~ regular meeting
of 0ounctl. The motion was adopted.

6th. "ih aeoo:~$e with' instructions of the Oouncil, ~ be~ to state that to put an
eighteen, foot bit~us m~c~dam roadway, penetration t~e, on Fort Lane between North and
Hollad~ ets. will cost ~oproxim~tely $1,000.00. This work can~possibly be done during
the coming year by repair forces a~ odd times, if approved by the Oouncil."

On motion, the comrmmuication was re~erred to the Finance Oommittee.

yth. "In accordance with instructions of the Council, I beg to state that an improved
sys~m of lighting on Or~wford St. similar to that on High St. west of Ohestnut St. and ex-
tending from ~igh to Columbia,. is estimated to cost $1,600.00."
