1 61 <br /> June 13~ 1995 <br /> <br />"The Hampton Roads Mayors and Chairs Caucus is seeking <br /> of a "prOPosed Policy on Publicly Funded Development <br /> and Intra-Regional Competition", This policy, which <br /> broad guidelines for regional economic development <br /> has been reviewed by all Economic Development I <br /> Representatives from Forward Hampton Roads, Virginia, <br /> Economic Development Council (VPEDC) and the two <br /> of the Governor's Regional Economic DevelOpment <br /> , Council, <br /> <br />I, therefore, recommend your approval of the attached <br /> endorsing policy guidelines for regional economic <br /> efforts." <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Clemons, and Seconded by Mr. Robinett, to <br />' consideration of this item until the July 25, 1995 Regula~ <br />coUnciI meeting, and Was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />None <br /> <br /> Letter from the City Manager reconunending adoption of a <br />to transfer $72,437 from the Grants Contingency Account <br /> community oriented policing initiatives. <br /> <br />"The Department of Criminal Justice Services has awarded <br /> of Portsmouth a grant for the Police Department in the <br /> of $72,437. The grant will be used to support crime <br /> initiatives through the acquisition of equipment and <br /> of certain personnel costs. Of special interest in this <br /> is the fact that the Police Department will be able to <br /> and activate Reverse 911, an interactive messaging <br /> which will broaden the exchange of information between <br /> Department and the community. <br /> <br />Given the vital role that the Crime Prevention Unit will <br />during all phases of the upcoming community policing <br /> I recommend a transfer of $72,437 from the Grants <br /> Account, inclusive of the 25% local match required <br /> 109." <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Robinett, and seconded by Mr. Hawks, to <br /> $72,437 to support community oriented policing <br /> and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Clemons, Griffin, Hawks, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Webb <br />None <br /> <br /> Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of a <br /> to transfer $21,247 from the Grants Contingency Account <br /> and upgrade equipment utilized by the Crime Analysis <br /> gence Unit in support of community policing oriented <br />ties. <br /> <br /> "The Department of Criminal Justice Services has awarded <br /> of Portsmouth a grant for the Police Department in the <br /> of $21,247. The grant will be used to upgrade the <br />equipment and software used to track and analyse <br />intelligence information. The grant will also allow <br />2rime Analysis Unit to purchase a high-volume copmer which <br /> be used to disseminate time-sensitive materials to all <br />ml and investigative officers in the Department. The Crime <br /> Unit will play a key role in the upcoming community <br /> project, as information developed by this Unit will be <br /> to dictate the deployment of police personnel and <br /> <br /> <br />
