<br /> AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE ~PLAOiNG OF P~AILROAD CARS S0 AS TO 0BSTRUOT THE SIDEWALES~
<br />AND ROADWAYS OF THE OITY OF ~0RTSMOUTH.

<br />Mr. Stewart (R._E. B.) moved that S~etlon I of the ordinance be amended to read as follows:
<br />
<br /> "Be it enacted by the 0ouncil of the Oity of Portsmouth, that the p~king or the placing
<br />of r&ilrsad cars for loading or unloading or anT~o~her purpose so as to obstruct any part of
<br />a sidewalk or. roadway on any street of the City of Portsmouth, between points 20 feet back of
<br />the building lines on each side of the street~ is hereby prohibited. On sidings the prohibitive
<br />limit shall be between building lines." The amendment was adopted.

<br /> Mr. Oast moved tb~t Section 8 (1) Navy Yard route, be cha~ged to read as f~liows: "Starti~
<br />on the north side of High St., between ~ater and Orawford~nd thence along High St. to Oourt
<br />St., to Wythe, to Fourth, to Gosport Ruad, to. Chestnut St.,~to Shell P~d, to Black's Laae,
<br />~nd returning over the same route to High, amd aletg High St. tothe ferry and thence to the
<br />point of begimning." Th~ motion was adopted.

<br /> Mr. Stewart (R.E.B.) moved that th~ last paragraph be amended to read as follow~: "Busses
<br />will not be permitted to stop on High St. between 0rawford and ~ater Sts. for a longer period
<br />thau is~eoessa=y to imme~iatelyreceiveanddisc~arge passengers or to immediately obtain a
<br />supply CT g~seline or ~lubrioating oil~ All passe,ers except for ~radock and other interurban
<br />busses-entering or leaving busses between Water and 0rawfcrd Sts. shall disembark on the s~th
<br />side of High St. near Water and sh~ll embark ~on the north side of High St. between Water and
<br />0=awford Sts. The n~cessary sp~ce shall be reserved at both these points by the Police De-
<br />partment for the purposes indicated." The amendment was adopted.

<br /> Mr. 0asr moved that the f~llowing p~ragraph be added to the ordinance: ~No autobus will
<br />be required to make .the loop vmm Middle St. toJ0ounty~ to Grawford~ to~ High street, except

<br /> Brooks moved that the following paragraph be added: "An e~ergency existing, this
<br />ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage.· The ~ndment was adopt~d~.

<br /> A communication was read from the Secretary of the Portsmouth Les~e of ~omen Voters stat-
<br />ing that at a meeting of said League on May 2nd the f, llowing motion was made and unanimously
<br />agreedUPon, "that the P~rtsmouth 0i~y Council be congratulated upon its selection of Mr. E. W.
<br />~in to fill'.the ~acancy on the Go,oil, and the City of Portsmouth be congratulated upon Mr.
<br /> in% acceptance of the appointment."
